First Impressions
Released in July 2018, the 900Global Eon is a technically fascinating ball in the "Advanced Performance" line, distinguished by a unique core geometry. At its center works the symmetrical Oloid core. This core is shaped geometrically so that it changes the radius of gyration during the ball's travel in a very specific way in order to conserve energy. With a medium RG of 2.52 and a moderate differential of 0.043 (at 15 lbs), this ball is aimed at control and continuation. The core is wrapped in the high-performance S82RX Pearl Reactive coverstock. The factory finish of 1500 grit polished gives the ball in Emerald/Black a glossy look that immediately signals: here comes a ball that offers length, but thanks to the strong chemical formula (S82RX) doesn't come across as weak at the breakpoint.
Comparison
In a direct comparison to the then extremely popular 900Global Honey Badger (known for its extreme "skid-flip" reaction), the Eon behaves in a much more mature and stable way. While the Honey Badger often whips at the end of the lane, the Eon offers a heavier, more controlled roll phase in the backend thanks to the Oloid core. It reads the midlane somewhat better than typical "weak" pearls, which helps it avoid over/under reactions. Bring in the 900Global Dream On (the predecessor with similar technology), and the Eon offers more length and a quicker response to friction thanks to the pearl shell, while retaining the typical predictability. It is comparable to a Storm !Q Tour Emerald (which came out later), but often offers a bit more "bite" in the oil thanks to the S82RX cover.
On the Lanes
The 900Global Eon is an ideal ball for medium oil conditions and the classic transition phase. It is perfectly suited for when the heads start to dry up and stronger solids (like the Tactical Ops) lose energy too early. Thanks to the Oloid core, the Eon holds its rotation for a very long time and generates a powerful arc into the pocket instead of turning abruptly. That makes it an excellent choice for tournament players looking for a pearl ball that doesn't jump uncontrollably. It is strong enough to still perform on light carrydown, but clean enough to ignore burned-up heads. A true "benchmark pearl" for the arsenal.
