First Impressions
The Brunswick Method Solid, released in March 2019, is a powerful addition to the Method line and is aimed at players looking for maximum traction. Note: since there is no "Storm Method," this analysis refers to the Brunswick model that came out in exactly that time frame. Visually, the ball shows up in a dark "Cosmic Blue / Purple / Black" color combination that looks extremely aggressive thanks to the dull 500/2000 Siaair Micro Pad finish. Inside works the symmetric Magnitude 055 High Diff Core, which at 15 lbs delivers an RG of 2.499 and a very high differential of 0.055. This combination of low RG and high differential produces early revving and massive flare potential. The core is wrapped in the Synthesis Solid coverstock, a chemical evolution that provides more bite in oil than the previous versions. One technical highlight is the use of DynamiCore technology in the outer core. This filler material optimizes energy transfer at pin impact, which noticeably and visibly improves carry compared to standard cores.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Brunswick Method (Hybrid), the Method Solid reads the lane considerably earlier. Where the hybrid predecessor runs cleanly through the heads and turns the corner sharply at the end, the Solid uses its dull surface to build traction already in the midlane and smooth out the breakpoint. Set against the market leader among symmetric solids, the Storm Phaze II, the Method Solid often plays a touch stronger in overall volume. The extremely high differential (0.055 vs. 0.051 on the Phaze II) makes the Method Solid flare more, which can help bring fresh surface to the lane in deep oil. It looks "bigger" on the lane than a Brunswick Magnitude 035, which is laid out to be more controllable and less dynamic. Against asymmetric heavyweights like the Brunswick Kingpin, the Method Solid offers a more predictable, more continuous motion without the abrupt "stop-and-turn" effect at the end of the pattern.
On the Lanes
The Brunswick Method Solid is a classic traction ball for medium to heavy oil patterns. It is the ideal choice as the first ball out of the bag on fresh lanes when you want to read the friction early in order to find a stable line to the pocket. Through the combination of a symmetric core and a strong solid cover, it eliminates overreaction on wet/dry lanes (cliffed house shots), because it does not jump in the dry zone but rolls in control. It is an excellent fit if you feel your benchmark balls are swimming in the oil but you don't yet want to switch to the twitchiness of an asymmetric core. Thanks to DynamiCore, carry is above average even at flatter angles. On dry lanes or once the heads are already burned up, however, it should be avoided, since it loses energy too early and arrives at the pins without power.
