First Impressions
The 900 Global Flux comes in a striking orange design with the S72R solid reactive coverstock, finished with a 4000 Abralon surface. As the second ball in the Tour Engineered 900 series, it joins the Space Time Continuum. It is the first ball from 900 Global outside of the Honey Badger and Badger releases to use a two-piece construction with no filler material. The specs show a 2.55 RG, a 0.048 differential and a 0.014 intermediate differential at 15 pounds. The Amplify core is based on the same shape as the Ellipticon core from the Continuum, but it has been given a flip block at the bottom to increase the differential in a two-piece core design. While the 900 Global Space Time Continuum has a polished pearl surface that runs very cleanly through the lane, the Flux uses a 4000 Abralon surface on the S72R solid coverstock. These changes give the Flux more traction in the midlane and more overall hook. Compared to other 900 Global balls, the S72R coverstock is said to use the same base formulation as the S72 coverstock, but with a catalyst added that should significantly increase backend performance while maintaining good traction in oil. The ball grabs very hard in the midlane, but shapes harder at the breakpoint than, for example, the 900 Global Ordnance. The increased differential should deliver more torque at the breakpoint. The Flux is designed for heavy to medium-heavy oil volume. Strokers and tweeners showed the better reactions of the three tester types on medium patterns. The Amplify asymmetric core provides 4-5 inches of flare potential. The two-piece design is said to have a higher coefficient of restitution, which should result in more energy from the ball surface through the pin deck. If you have a moderate to higher rev rate, this ball is a particularly good fit, since it combines strong midlane traction with a controllable backend reaction. The 4000 Abralon surface lets the ball glide through heavier volumes of oil, while the asymmetric core should provide the necessary energy at the end of the lane.
