The Pyramid Pathogen Plague Pearl presents itself as a specialized solution for super-low oil conditions with the GPS Navigational Pearl Urethane coverstock and the SG 19.5 asymmetric core at 2.52 RG, 0.043 differential and 0.015 mass bias diff. The 1000-grit Abralon surface and the medium flare potential should deliver controllable arcs on dry lanes. The black urethane look is plain and appealing. In the 10-11 pound weights, the symmetric New Era 139 core is used instead. This combination is meant to offer all the advantages of a urethane pearl cover with a larger asymmetric core, allowing more drive and a stronger overall motion than the original Pathogen Plague.
Comparison
Compared to Pyramid's original Pathogen Plague, the pearl version offers a stronger overall motion thanks to the asymmetry. While established urethane balls such as the Storm Pitch Black are known more for controlled, straighter reactions, the asymmetric core of the Plague Pearl should allow increased hook potential and a more angular ball motion. Similar to the Pyramid Pathogen X, the medium RG and differential values allow a midlane reaction before the backend builds, which should reduce over/under behavior. Reports on the regular Pathogen Plague describe an early read of the lane with a smooth transition from skid to hook to roll, something the pearl version should intensify through the additional asymmetry.

The manufacturer advertises versatile drilling options for different styles, with the system intended to appeal to bowlers from strokers to two-handers. With urethane balls, the longer time spent in the track is characteristic, which allows easy length and speed retention with a smoother backend. Especially if you have trouble following the oil line inside, you can stay on your line longer and play straighter angles, while if you're a slower-speed player you'll benefit from the speed retention and the tighter angles for better carry. It's important to wipe the ball down after every shot to ensure consistent ball reaction.
