First Impressions
The 900 Global Honey Badger Extreme Pearl uses the 3-piece Grapnel Asymmetric Core wrapped in an S74R Pearl Reactive coverstock. With a 2.54 RG (15 pounds), a .053 differential and a .011 intermediate differential, plus a 1500 grit polished surface, the ball comes in an eye-catching red-white-blue color combination. The Extreme Pearl presents itself as a smooth-reacting pearl with a very easy throwing experience, and thanks to the polished pearl surface it offers more length, stronger motion off the dry and less overall hook than the solid version. The asymmetric core allows for over 5 inches of flare potential and should deliver the highest possible backend reaction for every player type.
Comparison
In practice the Extreme Pearl behaves like a "baby Storm No Rules Pearl," but shows a noticeably more controlled character. Compared to other Badger models such as the Money Badger or the regular Honey Badger, the Extreme Pearl offers more midlane traction and control thanks to its lower RG and higher differential. Where the Money Badger showed too much length and the Honey Badger too unpredictable an over/under behavior, the Extreme Pearl provides considerably more traction in the midlane. The S74R Pearl cover was already used on the 900 Global Inception Pearl and Truth Pearl. Both balls were known as very unique pearls that pro players used for their versatility on a wide range of lane conditions. In a direct comparison to the solid version, the pearl is about 2-3 boards weaker and a few feet longer, which gives it a bit more shape at the end of the pattern.
On the Lanes
The Extreme Pearl shows its strengths especially on medium oil patterns, with the S74R Pearl Reactive cover being versatile enough for medium to dry lane conditions. The ball can be used on lighter to medium oil volumes, where it shows more angle on the backend, as well as on medium to heavy volumes, where it plays clean but controllable from more direct trajectories. The ball reaction stays evenly smooth, is a bit cleaner than the solid version, and even with its pearl characteristics shows no jumpy behavior at the end of the pattern. Because it can get to the backend without overreacting to outside friction, even when playing direct, the ball is particularly suited for players who value control and predictability. The polished surface should allow effortless glide through the heads before the ball begins its hook phase on a wide range of lane conditions. Together with the Extreme Solid version, the pearl forms a perfect one-two combination in your arsenal.
