First Impressions
The Brunswick U-Motion comes in a deep dark purple/black color scheme and represents Brunswick's perfected urethane motion after months of testing and research. As a modern urethane ball, it works with the symmetrical U-Motion core, characterized by a higher 2.596 RG and a low 0.020 differential. The solid urethane surface comes out of the box at 500/1000 Siaair Micro Pad. This core construction should deliver the smooth, consistent roll you expect from urethane balls.
Comparison
Compared directly to its predecessor, the U-Motion's evolution is clear. Against the Brunswick True Motion, the U-Motion starts up a few feet later and offers about three boards more hook in the backend. That extra motion down the back and the improved hitting power are what set it apart from the True Motion. Field reports mention additional backend motion that wasn't there on previous urethane balls. Compared to the popular Purple Hammer from Hammer, there's also a difference: while the Purple Hammer tends to go a little too long before it finds friction, the U-Motion grabs earlier.
On the Lanes
The U-Motion is aimed primarily at lighter oil volumes and shorter patterns, and it should deliver consistent, predictable ball reaction on any condition. That predictability is meant to take all the guesswork out of the equation, making it a good fit if you want to play a controlled line. For short sport patterns where you need a controllable reaction, or for wet/dry league conditions where you want to stay outside as long as possible, the ball shows itself to be a suitable solution. It also has application on older wood lanes or short tournament patterns, where its controlled characteristics come into play. The ball lets you open up the angles and still carry the corner pins, which underscores its versatility.
