First Impressions
The Roto Grip Attention Star was released on February 16, 2024 and shows up in a striking Berry, Silver and Iron color scheme. Technically, the ball is built around a Momentous AV + A.I. Core with an RG of 2.48, a differential of 0.049 and an intermediate differential of 0.017. The cover is eTrax Plus Pearl Reactive coverstock with a Reacta Gloss finish. Especially noteworthy is that the original Momentous core had previously been available only in international markets and is now being used in North America for the first time.
Comparison
In a direct comparison to the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout, the Attention Star gets going earlier, but shows a less angular reaction because of the pin-down layout. Against the 900 Global Eternity, the Attention Star starts to grab a bit sooner, but isn't as sharp as the pin-up drilled Eternity with its stronger core. Compared to the popular Exotic Gem there's a clear difference — the Exotic Gem is noticeably stronger. In overall strength, the Attention Star sits closer to the Virtual Energy Blackout than to the Exotic Gem. Within the Roto Grip lineup, the ball slots in perfectly between the Clone (since it gets through the heads cleaner) and the TNT Infused (since it's stronger overall).
On the Lanes
The Attention Star offers high hook potential and is designed specifically for medium oil conditions. It clears the heads easily, shows a strong midlane reaction and an even stronger backend reaction. On fresh medium patterns it provides enough traction in the oil to keep it from skating through the midlane, while the strong backend hook brings shots played out to the outside back to the pocket. As the pattern breaks down, it easily allows you to keep moving further inside with your feet and swing the lane. As a fresh medium oil ball it works especially well playing up the lane, and once the lane starts to break down, the lane can really be opened up. The A.I. Core Technology should deliver a quicker roll-up and more surface contact with the lane, which benefits experienced players in particular who need precise control over their ball reaction.
