First Impressions
The Motiv Forge Flare makes a striking visual statement in a black/orange/yellow design with red and gray accents. Technically it relies on the proven Detonator core (symmetric) with a 2.470 RG and a 0.055 differential at 15 pounds. The 14-pound version comes in at a 2.49 RG and a 0.054 differential. The centerpiece of the ball is the new Coercion MXC Solid Reactive coverstock with a 2000 LSS surface prep, which is billed as Motiv's strongest solid cover. These specs should give the ball a quick response, strength and continuous ball reaction with massive track flare potential.
Comparison
Head to head, the Forge Flare offers a smoother arc than the Motiv Alpha Jackal, while the Alpha Jackal shows a sharper change of direction at the breakpoint. In testing, the Forge Flare proved to be 5 boards stronger than the Motiv Jackal Flash. According to the experience of various testers, it is said to be the strongest Motiv reaction ever, even bigger than the Jackal Ghost, Alpha Jackal or Trident Abyss. It shares the same symmetric Detonator core with the original Forge and the Forge Fire, but sets itself apart with the new Coercion MXC Solid Reactive coverstock.
On the Lanes
The Forge Flare is designed specifically for medium to heavy oil conditions and should provide both exceptional traction in the heads and downlane reaction. If you're speed-dominant, it offers the advantage that you don't have to rely on asymmetric balls to limit the skid phase without sacrificing continuation. Tweeners can play farther left with this ball on patterns with high oil volume and still see shape, instead of being pushed out of their zone by rev-dominant players. It should be especially valuable on oil patterns 40 feet and longer and offer more forgiveness when you miss your intended target. As with all strong balls with high traction, the Forge Flare needs enough oil, but it can still develop impressive downlane motion even from deeper lines.
