The Storm Marvel Maxx Impact presents itself as the wine-colored wonder of the established Marvel series and represents a ball built uncompromisingly for power. Technically, Storm goes with the polished version of the NeX (Nano Extreme) solid coverstock, finished with 1500 Abralon polish. The symmetrical Centripetal core shows a 2.48 RG and a .050 differential at 15 pounds. The NeX solid cover is said to be Storm's earliest-reading cover to date, hooking earlier than NRG on every lane surface and oil pattern.
Comparison
The Marvel Maxx Impact positions itself as a distinctly more aggressive alternative to the Storm Marvel Maxx Attack, which works with NRG hybrid technology. While the Attack is designed for medium lane conditions, the Impact targets situations where maximum hook is already needed in the heads. Compared to the Storm Virtual Gravity Nano, which established the NRG technology, the NeX cover offers, according to the manufacturer, 11% more entry angle and 9.6% more overall hook after 50 shots compared to a fresh NRG cover. Against other high-performance balls in the Marvel series as well, such as the Marvel Maxx Elite with NRG Solid, the Impact should read earlier thanks to the more advanced NeX formulation.

The Marvel Maxx Impact is aimed primarily at experienced bowlers who have to deal with heavily oiled lanes and high oil volume. With its extremely low center of gravity, the Centripetal core provides stability and forgiveness. This will allow the Marvel Maxx Impact to maintain midlane control while still delivering the smooth, yet powerful, change of direction needed to maximize pin carry. If you have a higher rev rate and speed, you'll benefit especially from the early reaction of the NeX cover, which provides reliable traction in the heads even in heavy oil. The combination of aggressive cover and controlled core should let the ball dig in and do damage shot after shot, making it ideal for league play and tournaments where maximum hook potential is required. Less experienced bowlers, or those with lower ball speed, may find the early reaction too aggressive.
