First Impressions
The Storm Incite makes a strong visual impression with its eye-catching color combination of gold, graphite, and crimson with silver logos. At its heart sits the innovative Tensor core, an asymmetric design with a 2.50" RG, a 0.053" differential, and a 0.013" intermediate differential. The cover is the latest R4S Hybrid coverstock formulation, an evolution of the proven Reactor line. Out of the box, the ball comes with a 3000 grit Abralon surface. The Tensor core is physically constructed to form a multi-dimensional matrix with even distribution that creates opposing rotational forces on an asymmetric platform, closing the gap between strong asymmetric and traditional symmetric cores.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Roto Grip RST X-1, the Incite reads earlier and smoother, but is a bit weaker overall. Against the Storm Hy-Road Max, the Incite lines up as clearly stronger and more aggressive — in testing, players stood 5 to 3 boards further left than with the Hy-Road Max. Compared to the Roto Grip Rubicon, the Incite is noticeably stronger in overall reaction. In the Storm hierarchy it slots in below the Proton Physix, but above balls like the Storm Axiom and Hy-Road Max. In fact, its performance is very reminiscent of the Storm Lock — both are 3000 grit hybrid balls with a strong, consistent reaction that turns over reliably.
On the Lanes
The Incite is particularly well suited to longer house patterns and higher oil volumes. It feels at home on fresh house shots or medium to heavy oil conditions and should deliver strong midlane hook and backend. Notable is its unexpected backend motion for a strong asymmetric ball with a 3000 grit surface. If you have a higher rev rate, you'll benefit especially from its arcing, controllable motion. Because of its unique characteristics, it's also recommended for juniors or adults looking to move from THS to challenge patterns. The ball shows its strengths playing the oil line on wet-dry lanes, since it has the power to roll through the oil without jumping high off the dry. For most players, this could well be the strongest ball in their arsenal.
