First Impressions
The SWAG Dynamite, released in spring 2021, presents itself as a versatile symmetrical pearl ball in the California Bowling line-up. Visually it stands out with its black, red and white color scheme (Coal/Flame/Champagne) finished with a polish. Inside works the Turbine V2 Core. At 15 pounds, this symmetrical core delivers a low RG of 2.496 and a high differential of 0.052. These numbers point to a ball that, despite the polished shell, likes to get into rotation early and produces a healthy amount of flare. The cover is the USY-1 Pearl Reactive coverstock, sanded to 1000 grit at the factory and then polished. This comparatively coarse base finish under the polish gives the ball more teeth in oil than typical "glassy" pearls, which makes it something of a hybrid in the way it works: it offers length, but it doesn't skid helplessly through the oil.
Comparison
Compared to the popular Storm Zen (also a strong symmetrical pearl ball), the SWAG Dynamite shows a slightly longer phase through the heads, but reacts to friction in a similar way. While the Zen is known for its extremely round, continuous motion, the Dynamite often looks a tick sharper at the breakpoint, especially when it runs out of the oil into the dry. Compared to the Roto Grip Idol Pearl, the Dynamite reads the midlane a bit earlier, due to the lower RG of the Turbine V2 core (2.49 vs. 2.50+ on many other pearls). Against its direct relative, the SWAG Dynamite Blaze (solid), the original Dynamite offers considerably more length and stores more energy for the backend, while the Blaze smooths out the lane much earlier and works at a flatter angle. It fills exactly the gap for the moment when solids start hooking too early but pure entry-level pearls are still too weak.
On the Lanes
The SWAG Dynamite is most at home on medium oil conditions. Thanks to the combination of a rev-happy low-RG core and the polished shell, it's an excellent choice when the lane starts to go into transition. When the aggressive solid balls begin to lose energy too early or burn up in the heads, the Dynamite offers the length needed to get through the played-out heads, yet still generates enough midlane read not to react touchily to the oil at the end of the pattern. It works very well if you like to "twist" the ball and open up angles, since the core delivers enough torque to come back to the pocket even from steeper angles. On extremely fresh, long oil it could be a bit too skiddy, and on extremely dry lanes the strong core could stand up too early, but in between it's a very reliable benchmark pearl.
