BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm Dark Code shows up in a sleek black obsidian look and belongs to Storm's Premier line. It features the RAD4 asymmetric core, whose RAD technology (Radial Accelerating Disc) should provide more torque and a better entry angle into the pocket. The ball carries the following specs: 2.50 RG (15 lb), 0.058 differential and 0.020 intermediate differential. The ReX Pearl Reactive coverstock (Reactor Extreme) is polished to 1500 grit and combines the proven R2S and NeX coverstocks. The ball is available from 12-16 lb and has a cherry scent.
Comparison
Head to head, the Dark Code shows some interesting traits next to other Storm balls. It uses the same RAD4 core as the Storm Code Black, but the new ReX Pearl cover gives it a stronger reaction. It's one to two boards stronger than the Code Black and reads the midlane earlier. Compared to the Roto Grip UFO Alert it is roughly three boards and two boards weaker, while it resembles the Storm Astro PhysiX but picks up slightly earlier in the midlane and runs more continuously. The Storm Parallax Effect is clearly earlier and stands up harder, making it sharper but overall stronger and more up front.
On the Lanes
The Dark Code is designed for medium to heavy oil conditions and performs best on standard medium-oil patterns and lane conditions. It should work optimally on medium oil lengths with somewhat more open angles. The ball is especially well suited if you're speed-dominant or have a lower rev rate, as well as on THS patterns with high oil volume. What stands out is the extreme length the ball shows on standard league patterns despite its good hook characteristics. That results in an explosive backend reaction once it finally does hook, which makes it particularly valuable on softer lanes going into transition. The clean surface also works well on older, worn lane surfaces, while it is too strong for light oil conditions and would hook too early there.
