First Impressions
The Hammer Infamous comes in a Grey/Royal/Coral color combination and represents a technical first in the symmetrical category. At its heart is the new Infamous core with multi-density symmetrical construction, wrapped in the Envy Solid coverstock. The specs show a medium-high RG of 2.559" and a high differential of 0.052". The ball leaves the factory with a 500/1000/2000 SiaAir surface treatment. The Infamous core features a large, extremely dense flip block in the upper portion of the core body along with a radial disc at the bottom for additional backend motion. This construction uses four different densities, including the famous Carbon Fiber outer shell.
Comparison
Head to head, the Infamous shows itself to be a versatile tool. Against a Storm Hy-Road drilled similarly, it worked as the stronger option with two boards more power, while the Hy-Road was cleaner and served as a great transition piece after 2-3 games. The Infamous should deliver an earlier reaction compared to the Storm Hy-Road. The ball's character shows up as a benchmark-type motion that works as a first ball out of the bag thanks to the predictable motion. Where other strong symmetrical balls can often react too aggressively, the Infamous offers a controlled alternative with sufficient backend power thanks to its higher RG.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Infamous is designed for medium to heavy oil conditions and shows its strengths especially on medium to heavy lanes with a hard-driving reaction. The relatively strong surface is a particular help if you have a low rev rate and need the ball to read the lane, while the core with its higher RG and good differential provides length and maintains the backend motion without burning up too early. This combination should deliver a smooth reaction with great hitting power and continuation, without any over/under reaction. The ball works excellently on both sport and house conditions and controls the midlane very well with continuous backend motion. Bowlers particularly appreciate its ability to smooth out wet/dry conditions and how well it responds to surface adjustments, which demonstrates its versatility. If you have a lower rev rate (200-250 rpm), the ball proves especially beneficial.
