First Impressions
The Ebonite Polaris comes in an eye-catching Orange/Sky/Purple color combination and builds on the proven Aero technology. The new Polaris uses a core similar to the great Aero, but adds a radial disc at the bottom of the ball for extra motion. With a 2.475 RG, a 0.048 differential and a 0.018 intermediate differential, this asymmetric ball sits clearly in the high-performance segment. The GSV-3 Solid reactive coverstock comes with a 500/1500 Siaair finish and should handle high oil volumes. What makes the lower disc special is that it isn't touched during drilling, so it retains its function and integrity.
Comparison
Ebonite states that internal testing confirms a clear increase in ball motion from the additional component compared to identical core numbers without the disc. Compared to the Ebonite Aero Dynamix, the Polaris offers a more aggressive reaction on similar lane conditions thanks to its modified core construction. Experts rate it as the best of Ebonite's recent heavy oil releases, which sets it apart from other balls in the brand's lineup. The ball is recommended especially if you're looking for a "big hook" ball or if you're a speed-dominant player. The hybrid version of the Polaris is expected later and should deliver a cleaner, more angular ball motion compared to the original.
On the Lanes
Designed for oily conditions, the Polaris performs best on lane conditions that match. The ball is a perfect fit for medium to heavy oil and anything with volume near the edge, smoothing out the lane effortlessly and leaving plenty of energy at the pin deck. Strokers appreciate the hook and traction on heavy oil test patterns, and the box surface is ideal for fresh lanes while allowing easy adjustments through the transition. The ball shows excellent pickup in the midlane thanks to the core and cover combination, which makes it a reliable choice for tournament conditions. Its durability shows in the fact that it stays consistently usable over 3 to 4 games before adjustments become necessary.
