First Impressions
The Track Kinetic EX presents itself as a rare international release from the proven Kinetic series. The ball features the Shuttle core with a 2.480 RG, a 0.040 differential and a 0.006 mass bias differential. The coverstock is Reactive Resin Pearl with a factory finish of 500, 1000, 1500 Siaair Micro Pad. These specs place the Kinetic EX squarely in the established tradition of the Track Kinetic family, known for its reliability and versatility.
Comparison
The Modified Kinetic core is one of the popular cores in the Track lineup, and thanks to its low RG, medium differential and low mass bias it stores energy longer and responds to friction more quickly than other mid-performance cores from Track. Compared to other balls in the Kinetic series such as the Kinetic Cobalt or Kinetic Platinum, the EX shares the same basic characteristics of the Shuttle core. The best description for the ball reaction of the Kinetic series is skid/flip, since the low mass bias core design is intended for medium to heavy lane conditions and works well when the ball is supposed to flip in the backend. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the Kinetic EX offers a more direct, less continuous motion.
On the Lanes
The ball is very well suited to the majority of easier house conditions, gets through the heads well on shorter patterns and can provide good backend control, while on longer patterns it retains enough energy to hit hard into the pocket. It is definitely a good ball when the lanes start to transition toward drier conditions. The pearl surface makes it ideal if you're looking for a skid-flip reaction on medium oil conditions. That said, caution is warranted with light carrydown, since the ball then tends to squirt and should be taken out of play. As a rare international release, it offers collectors and experienced players an interesting alternative to the regular US models in the Kinetic series.
