First Impressions
The 900 Global Wolverine Mutant presents itself as a further development of the successful Wolverine series. The S74 Response Pearl Reactive coverstock replaces the previous S70 cover and offers a higher oil absorption rate, which improves oil resistance. The proven Lacerate 2.0 symmetric core with a 2.54 RG and a .053 differential forms the heart of the ball. The Lacerate 2.0 core combines the two most successful cores from Global — the upper portion comes from the Honey Badger, the lower from the Badger. The standard surface is 1500 grit polish, with flare potential in the 4-5 inch range.
Comparison
Compared to other 900 Global balls, the Wolverine Mutant should offer the most aggressive backend on medium to lighter conditions in the Global lineup. The upgrade from the S70 to the S74 cover increases oil resistance over the previous model. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the positioning is similar, though the Wolverine Mutant provides more length and sharper direction changes thanks to its pearl surface. The combination of the S74 cover and the Lacerate 2.0 core should ensure consistent performance especially during transition, when other balls are already losing reaction.
On the Lanes
The ball is ideal if you need an aggressive backend reaction on medium oil conditions, since the core allows unusually sharp direction changes and flat out tears up the back end of the lane. The specification for medium to heavy oil makes it versatile across different playing styles. Bowlers with medium to high rev rates in particular benefit from the length through the heads and the explosive backend reaction.
