First Impressions
The Pyramid Path Rising Solid is an established classic in the entry level performance segment, and it was still a relevant option in January 2022. Visually the ball is usually kept plain and functional, often in a single-color black (Black Solid), which gives it a timeless look. Technically it is built around the New Era 139 Symmetric Core. With a 2.54 RG and a 0.032 differential (at 15 lbs), this core delivers moderate numbers geared toward controllability. The cover is the Path Reactive Solid coverstock. One notable feature here is the factory 1500-grit polished finish. Even though this is a solid material, the polish keeps the ball from grabbing immediately in the oil, letting it generate length before it reacts smoothly.
Comparison In direct comparison, the Path Rising Solid positions itself as the logical next step after a pure polyester ball (such as the Pyramid Path). Unlike plastic, it offers actual hook and noticeably better pin carry. Compared with direct market competitors like the Brunswick Rhino or the Storm Tropical Surge, the Path Rising Solid often plays a bit rounder and more fluid. Where a Tropical Surge (pearl) sometimes reacts a little more abruptly to dry, the Path Rising Solid's solid base provides a smoother arc. It is considerably weaker than Pyramid's mid-performance balls (the Antidote series, for example), which makes it the superior choice on dry lanes.
On the Lanes The Path Rising Solid is designed primarily for two groups: beginners and dry lane specialists. For a beginner it is the ideal first reactive ball for learning to work with rotation, since it forgives mistakes at the release and does not jump across the boards uncontrollably. For advanced players it is an excellent weapon on very dry or "burned up" house shots (light oil). When high performance balls are already starting to roll out in the heads, this ball offers enough length to still get to the pocket. It produces a very controlled reaction at the breakpoint and prevents over-reaction ("over/under").
