First Impressions
The 900 Global Reality X12, released in February 2022 as an exclusive international ("Overseas") release, is a special evolution of the extremely successful Reality. Visually it stands apart thanks to its magenta, aqua and gold color scheme, which sets it off from the darker original. Technically it stays true to the winning formula: inside works the Disturbance Asymmetric Core, which with a 2.49 RG and a 0.052 differential (at 15 lbs) plus a 0.018 intermediate differential delivers massive flare and early torque. The shell is still the S84 Response Solid Reactive coverstock. The decisive difference lies in the finish: instead of a coarse 2000 grit, the X12 comes out of the box with a 3000 Abralon finish, which gives it a somewhat smoother surface.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original 900 Global Reality (Solid), the finer 3000 finish lets the X12 get through the heads a little cleaner and save a bit more energy for the backend, without losing the typical "Reality traction" in oil. It is not as extremely early rolling as a Roto Grip Gem, but instead offers a somewhat more versatile line. Set against the 900 Global Altered Reality (Pearl), the X12 is clearly earlier, rounder and more controlled overall. A fitting external comparison is the Storm Proton Physix: both balls are monsters for heavy oil, though the Reality X12 often appears a touch longer thanks to its factory finish and describes a slightly more continuous curve instead of stopping abruptly.
On the Lanes
Like its sibling, the Reality X12 is designed primarily for heavy oil and fresh sport patterns ("Heavy Oil"). It is the ideal choice when you need the traction of a solid but the original Reality started digging a bit too early or felt too "sluggish" on the backend. The 3000 finish makes it excellent on lanes that are oily but whose backends are no longer reacting completely "fresh". It provides a heavy, rolling motion that keeps the pins very flat (high carry), and the massive core also forgives inaccuracies at release by holding its line securely in the oil without skidding through.
