First Impressions
The Big Bowling Bounce, released in February 2022 alongside the Rekker Extreme, presents itself as the bright counterpart for lighter conditions. Visually, the ball stands out with its shiny pearl shell in the Caribbean, Silver and Indigo color combination, which immediately suggests length. Inside works the Launch Core, a symmetrical core with a very specific character: a high RG of 2.540 (at 15 lbs) makes the ball glide extremely easily through the heads (skid), while the high differential of 0.050 produces plenty of flare and a strong backend motion. The cover is the A.M.P. Pearl Reactive coverstock (Aggressive Molecular Placement), polished to a high gloss out of the box. These specs clearly define it as a "skid-flip" machine.
Comparison In a direct comparison with the simultaneously released Big Bowling Rekker Extreme (solid, low RG), the Bounce is the exact opposite: where the Rekker digs in early, the Bounce pushes much farther down the lane. It is considerably more dynamic and more angular than the original Big Bowling Shim, which reacted rather controlled and flat due to its very low differential. A fitting external comparison is the Storm Hy-Road Pearl or the Storm Trend 2: like those balls, the Bounce uses a higher RG to store energy, but thanks to the high differential of 0.050 it often offers a bit more lateral movement (flare) at the breakpoint. It reacts more sharply to dry lanes than a typical benchmark pearl such as the DV8 Damn Good Verge Pearl.
On the Lanes The Bounce is the ideal weapon for the second or third game, when the lane goes into transition and the heads are played out. It needs dry boards in the backend to work effectively. Thanks to the high RG, it almost completely ignores the oil in the front part of the lane and saves all of its rotational energy for an explosive change of direction into the pocket. It works excellently if you like to play big angles ("deep inside") and need a ball that still comes back reliably from far left and mixes the pins well through a lot of entry angle (carry). On fresh or very long oil, however, it is usually too slick.
