First Impressions
The Storm Marvel Maxx Tour, released in March 2022 as an exclusive international (Overseas) release, brings back one of the most popular core shapes in bowling history. Visually, the ball comes in a rich, dark "Forest Green," which gives it a classic, understated look. At its heart sits the legendary Centripetal Core, a symmetrical core with an extremely low center of gravity. With a 2.48 RG and a high 0.050 differential (at 15 lbs), it differs substantially from the !Q Tour series, since it has considerably more flare potential. The cover is the proven NRG Solid Reactive coverstock with a dull 2000-grit Abralon finish. This combination of nanotechnology cover and quick-revving core promises an extremely stable, traction-heavy motion.
Comparison Within the Storm lineup, the Marvel Maxx Tour closes the gap between the controlled Storm !Q Tour Solid and the stronger Storm Phaze II. Compared to the !Q Tour Solid (which also has a low RG), the Marvel Maxx Tour offers substantially more flare thanks to the higher differential (0.050 vs. 0.029), and therefore more overall hook and board coverage in oil. Compared to the Phaze II, it gets into a similar early read in the midlane, but is often described as somewhat "rounder" and smoother in its backend motion. Where the Phaze II sometimes makes a more aggressive arc, the Marvel Maxx Tour stays extremely stable even through difficult transitions and prevents overreaction ("over/under"). A good outside comparison would be the Ebonite Game Breaker 2 (legendary) or a modern Track Stealth.
On the Lanes The Marvel Maxx Tour is a natural benchmark ball for medium to heavier oil conditions. It's ideal for reading the lane on fresh oil, since the NRG Solid surface smooths out the friction spikes and the core creates an early, predictable roll. It works very well if you find a !Q Tour too weak on the pins or too short on hook, but don't want to give up the safety of a symmetrical core. Its strength is pocket control: it blends out wet/dry conditions and delivers a heavy roll that helps carry even on less than perfect hits. Once the lane dries up significantly, though, it's time to switch, since it will otherwise burn up energy too early.
