First Impressions
The Storm !Q Tour Blue (often simply known as the !Q Tour Edition) is a living legend, and it returned in April/May 2022 as a special re-release ("Built to Order" for international markets). Visually it stays true to its iconic "Midnight Blue," which is instantly recognizable. Technically, the ball is based on the proven combination that has made it a benchmark since 2012: the C³ Centripetal Control Core with a very low 2.49 RG and a low 0.029 differential (at 15 lbs). This control-oriented core is wrapped in the R2S Solid Reactive coverstock with a 4000-grit Abralon finish. These specs practically scream stability and predictability rather than maximum flare or aggressive backend.
Comparison Compared directly to the modern benchmark heavyweight, the Storm Phaze II, the !Q Tour Blue moves noticeably earlier but with substantially less overall motion (hook potential). Where the Phaze II picks up hard again at the breakpoint ("kicks"), the !Q Tour Blue stays extremely smooth and controlled. It is the opposite of "skittish." Compared to balls like the Storm Hy-Road, the !Q Tour Blue reads the lane considerably earlier and smooths out the reaction to wet/dry conditions better, but has less angle in the backend. A fitting current comparison would be the 900 Global Zen, though the Zen (as a pearl) reacts much sharper; here the !Q Tour Blue is the calm, stabilizing counterpart.
On the Lanes The !Q Tour Blue is the ultimate "safety ball." It isn't built to open up the lane from wall to wall, but to control the pocket when conditions get tricky. Its ideal application is sport patterns with a flat oil ratio or house shots that overreact badly in the backend. Because of the low differential, the ball flares very little, which makes it very stable through the heads and the midlane. It's often the first choice to see how the lane is playing without running the risk of the ball jumping unpredictably. If you have a higher rev rate, it's a must-have for turning those revs into control.
