- Blizzard Whiteout

First Impressions
Released in June 2022, the Blizzard Whiteout from Lord Field (distributed under the SWAG/California Bowling umbrella) immediately stands out with its unusual "Aqua/White" color scheme, which creates an almost icy effect on the lane. Technically, this ball is an absolute powerhouse for heavier conditions. At its center works the Blizzard Asymmetric Core, which carries an RG of about 2.497 and a high differential of 0.052 (at 15 lbs) along with a strong intermediate differential of 0.030. These asymmetric numbers produce massive flare potential and quick rotation. What makes it special is the combination with the Reverie 3 (RVR 3) Pearl Reactive coverstock. Unlike most pearl balls, which are polished, the Whiteout ships from the factory with a 4000-grit sanded finish. This dull pearl surface ensures that despite the pearl additives, the ball doesn't skid over the oil but digs into the lane early.
Comparison
In terms of construction — asymmetric core, pearl shell, but a dull finish — the Blizzard Whiteout compares very well to the Storm Infinite Physix, which follows a similar concept. While a classic polished pearl ball like the Roto Grip RST X-2 or the Storm Dark Code often reacts abruptly only at the end of the oil pattern ("skid-flip"), the Blizzard Whiteout reads the lane noticeably earlier. It moves more rounded and more stable through the midlane than a purely shiny ball, yet still offers more backend motion than a dull solid like the SWAG Blizzard Zero. It closes the gap between a strong snowplow ball and a dry-lane pearl. Compared to a Hammer Black Widow Ghost Pearl, the 4000-grit surface makes the Whiteout feel more controlled and less prone to overreacting at the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
The Blizzard Whiteout is an excellent choice for medium-heavy to heavy oil. Because of the 4000-grit finish and the strong asymmetric core, it needs oil in the front part of the lane (heads) so it doesn't burn up its energy too early. It's ideal as a starting ball on fresh house shots or sport patterns when you're looking for a ball that opens up the pocket but doesn't snap away uncontrollably at the first touch of friction. The dull pearl cover has the advantage of getting through the dirt in the heads well, while still storing enough energy — unlike solid balls — to mix the pins up with authority (carry). Once the lane dries up, though, it's best set aside, since it would then roll out too early.
