First Impressions
The Storm Infinite PhysiX continues the popular PhysiX line with a striking dark blue look in Sapphire, Deep Purple and Onyx. Technically, the ball relies on the proven asymmetric Atomic Core, known for its extremely low 2.48 RG and a high 0.053 differential (at 15 lbs). These numbers mean the core revs up very quickly and produces a strong midlane read. This aggressive motor is paired with the ReX Pearl Reactive cover (Reactive Extension). One key nuance here is the surface finish: although chemically it's a pearl blend, the ball ships from the factory with a 4000-grit Abralon finish. That gives it a matte sheen and makes it provide noticeably more traction than conventional polished pearl balls.
Comparison
Within the PhysiX family, the Infinite PhysiX fills an important gap. Compared to the Storm Proton PhysiX, which rolled extremely early with its rough solid shell and 2000-grit finish, the Infinite offers more length through the heads and a stronger move off the backend. Compared to the Storm Astro PhysiX, which was high-gloss polished, the Infinite reads the lane considerably earlier and responds more gently to friction instead of turning abruptly. It behaves similarly to the Storm Dark Code, since both use the ReX Pearl cover; because the Dark Code was polished, however, the Infinite PhysiX comes across as more controllable and rounder in its overall motion thanks to the 4000-grit finish. You can think of it as a cleaner version of a Roto Grip RST X-1, with a little more energy retention for the pins.
On the Lanes
The Storm Infinite PhysiX is an excellent choice for medium to heavier oil patterns. Thanks to the 4000-grit finish, it doesn't simply skid over the oil but builds enough traction in the middle part of the lane to stay predictable. It's ideal when pure solid balls lose energy too early (burn up) but polished balls still react too sensitively and too jumpy. The ball lets you open up the pocket and play deeper angles, with the asymmetric core making sure it still finds its way back to the pocket from wide paths. It generates a strong, continuous hook and provides outstanding carry, since it releases its energy evenly through the pin deck rather than all at once.
