BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm Super Nova, released in September 2022, positions itself as the absolute heavyweight in Storm's Premier Line. Visually the ball is hard to miss: the color combination of Lime, Azure and Black looks extremely lively and aggressive on the lane. Under that colorful shell works a combination of proven and reinforced technology. The asymmetric Ignition core, known from the original Nova, produces an early roll and massive flare potential with a 2.49 RG and a 0.052 differential (at 15 lbs). The decisive upgrade is the NeX Solid Reactive coverstock. This "Nano Extreme" cover is chemically designed to generate maximum traction in oil. The ball ships with a coarse 2000-grit Abralon finish, which signals unmistakably: this ball is built to dig through heavy oil, not to skid. The typical Storm scent here is Fruit Pop.
Comparison
Compared directly to its predecessor, the Storm Nova, which used a hybrid cover and a finer 3000-grit finish, the Super Nova goes noticeably earlier and digs harder. Where the Nova still offered a certain amount of length and reacted more defined at the breakpoint, the Super Nova smooths the pattern out far more and eliminates overreaction. Bring in the Storm Proton PhysiX, which also uses the NeX Solid coverstock, and both play in the same "snow tire" league. The Proton PhysiX often looks a tick more angular downlane thanks to its Atomic core, while the Super Nova with the Ignition core shows a somewhat rounder, more continuous motion through the pins. Against the Roto Grip Gem, which rolls extremely early and moves very forward, the Super Nova holds a bit more energy for a sideways move into the pocket, but it's at home on similarly high oil volumes.
On the Lanes
The Storm Super Nova is a classic "tank" for heavy oil. It's the first choice on fresh conditions with high oil volume, where other balls are still skidding and missing the breakpoint. Its coarse surface locks into the lane immediately, which makes it extremely stable and predictable. It works excellently if you throw the ball fast and need a ball that reliably slows down, or if you're a high-rev player who has to play in a flood of oil. On drier lanes or later in the transition it's out of place, since it then burns up energy too early and arrives "dead" at the pin deck. It's the tool to control the boards and open up the pocket before you move to weaker equipment like the Nova or Phaze II.
