First Impressions
The Radical Innovator marks a significant technological leap for the brand. Visually it comes in a cool combination of teal, blue and silver that looks very technical and modern on the lane. Inside works the newly developed asymmetric Innovator core. At 15 lbs it delivers a low RG of 2.477, a high differential of 0.053 and a moderate intermediate differential of 0.012. These numbers point to an early, rev-happy center. The real revolution, however, lies in the shell: here Radical introduces the "MOtion Magic Plus Pearl" reactive material. Finished with a 500/1000/1500 Siaair and Crown Factory Compound finish, this ball is designed to glide extremely cleanly through the heads and to produce one of the sharpest direction changes ("snap") in the entire Radical lineup.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Radical Bigfoot (symmetric), which offers a rounder and more controlled motion, the Innovator is clearly more aggressive and more angular at the breakpoint. It responds considerably faster to friction. Set against the Radical Trail Blazer, the Innovator provides more length and a stronger kick in the backend thanks to the new cover technology and the compound finish. In the broader market it aims directly at the niche of the Hammer Black Widow Ghost Pearl: an asymmetric pearl ball that generates a lot of angle. The Innovator is often described as a touch sharper and quicker in the response phase than the Widow Ghost, which gives it exceptional carry at steep angles.
On the Lanes
The Radical Innovator is made for medium to heavier oil conditions where you have to open up the lane. It is not a ball for playing straight up the line; it wants to be thrown from left to right. Its greatest strength is recovery: thrown well out to the outside, it has enough energy and response speed to come back hard to the pocket. It is ideal for the transition phase, when solid balls burn up too early but you still need the punch of an asymmetric core. On very dry lanes, though, its quick reaction can make it hard to control.
