First Impressions
The DV8 Brutal Collision immediately catches the eye with its vibrant color mix of indigo, black and orange. These intense colors are a side effect of the HK22 base technology used here, which provides improved transparency and color depth. Inside works the proven asymmetric Collision core. At 15 lbs it is characterized by an extremely low RG of 2.462, a high differential of 0.052 and an intermediate differential of 0.019. These numbers describe a core that gets into rotation very early. The cover is made of the HK22 - Aggression EVO Pearl Reactive material. The surface is finished out of the box with a 500/1000/1500 Siaair sanding followed by Crown Factory Compound. The result is a ball that, despite its very rev-happy core, glides cleanly through the heads and promises an explosive reaction at the end of the pattern.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original DV8 Collision, which used a solid Inciter Max surface, the Brutal Collision goes noticeably longer and is more aggressive in the backend. Where the solid predecessor smoothed out the lane early and showed a rounder motion, the Brutal uses the HK22 technology to react faster to friction ("snappier"). It offers a similar overall strength to the Brunswick Defender Hybrid, but reads the lane a bit earlier and rolls heavier thanks to the lower RG of the Collision core. Next to a ball like the DV8 Hellcat, the Brutal Collision looks more angular and defines the breakpoint more sharply. It is the ideal counterpart ("step down") when the original Collision or a Hellcat XLR8 start losing energy too early.
On the Lanes
The Brutal Collision is made for medium to heavier oil conditions. Its big strength is the ability to play steep angles. When the lane goes through transition and you're forced to move deep inside, the clean HK22 cover makes sure the ball stores enough energy to get through the heads. At the same time, the strong asymmetric core guarantees that the ball doesn't just slide at the breakpoint but turns hard and produces enormous carry. It is perfectly suited for opening up the lane. On extremely fresh oil it may react a little too sensitively to the breakpoint for some players ("over/under"), but once a line is played in, it is an absolute weapon for a spectacular hook.
