First Impressions
The Ebonite Envision Pearl immediately stands out with its striking color scheme in silver, carbon and turquoise, which looks very dynamic on the lane. Inside works the proven asymmetric Envision design, which at 15 lbs delivers a 2.501 RG, a 0.053 differential and a 0.010 intermediate differential. The big change, however, is the shell: Ebonite uses the GSV-X Pearl Reactive material here, which builds on the innovative HK22 (HyperKinetic22) base technology. The surface comes out of the box with a 500/1000/1500 Siaair sanding and Crown Factory Compound finish. This combination of polished surface and modern chemistry lets the ball glide extremely cleanly through the heads and almost creates the visual impression that it is floating on the oil before it reacts at the end of the pattern.
Comparison
Compared to the original Ebonite Envision, which has a solid surface, the pearl sibling is noticeably longer and more angular in its motion. The solid reads the lane much earlier and rolls rounder, while the pearl saves its energy for the last third. In the competitive field it compares well to the Storm Dark Code, though the Envision Pearl often shows an even quicker response to friction thanks to the HK22 additive ("snappier"). It offers more overall hook than weaker symmetric pearls such as the Ebonite Game Breaker 4 Pearl, but it also asks for more oil in the front part of the lane so it doesn't react too early.
On the Lanes
The Envision Pearl is an excellent ball for the transition, when your early-game balls start losing energy too soon. It plays to its strengths on medium to heavy oil patterns once the heads have broken down a bit. You can comfortably keep moving left with this ball and open up the boards, since it offers enough recovery to get back to the pocket even from steep angles. The asymmetric weight block generates a lot of torque in the backend, which has a positive effect on carry. On extremely fresh or very long oil, though, it may react a little too sensitively at the breakpoint, which is why it ideally serves as a second or third ball in the bag.
