BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Explosion brings an absolute classic back to the lanes: the legendary Resurgence core. Visually, the ball shows up in a striking combination of orange and black, which gives it a fiery look. Technically, the symmetrical Resurgence core delivers a very low RG of 2.469 and a moderate differential of 0.043 at 15 lbs. Those numbers stand for an extremely early revving core and controlled rotation. This proven engine is wrapped in the modern Reflex Hybrid coverstock. The surface comes out of the box with a 500/2000 Siaair Micro Pad finish. That matte texture signals immediately that this ball was not built for maximum skid, but rather to build traction early and produce a very readable ball reaction.
Comparison
Within the Columbia 300 lineup, the Explosion positions itself as a direct competitor to the popular Columbia 300 Power Torq. While the Power Torq is often perceived as somewhat "blockier" in its movement, the Explosion offers a slightly more continuous motion through the pin deck thanks to the hybrid coverstock and the round Resurgence core. Compared to a ball like the Columbia 300 Top Speed, which delivers a lot of length and backend snap with its polished surface and HK22 technology, the Explosion is clearly earlier and smoother. It operates in the same benchmark category as the Storm Phaze II, though the Explosion often starts to roll a little earlier and traces a very smooth arc without abrupt changes of direction.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Explosion is the epitome of a benchmark ball for medium to heavier oil patterns. It's the first choice for reading the lanes, since it avoids overreaction at the end of the pattern and compensates well for inconsistencies in speed. The low RG gets it into rotation quickly, which helps it cut through the oil in the heads without going into skid. It works excellently as a starting ball on fresh oil, to break down the edges and define a line. If you're looking for a ball that finds the pocket in controlled fashion and offers an arcing motion rather than a sharp hook angle, this is it. Once the lane dries up significantly, however, it may lack the energy for carry, and a move to a polished pearl ball would be advisable.
