First Impressions
The Storm Absolute immediately stands out with its unusual color combination of Copperhead, Jade and Phantom Black, giving it a very distinctive look on the lane. As is customary for Storm balls in the Premier Line, this one carries a scent as well, here "Orange Cream Soda". Technically, the Absolute marks a turning point: it introduces the new asymmetric Sentinel core. This core is unique in that it combines (at 15 lbs) a low 2.48 RG and a 0.050 differential with an intermediate differential of 0.021. What sets it apart is the single-density construction of the asymmetric block, which is rather untypical for Storm. This engine is wrapped in the R2S Deep Hybrid Reactive coverstock. The surface comes polished to a high gloss out of the box with the Reacta Gloss finish. This combination sends a clear signal: this ball wants to generate length and react late.
Comparison
Compared directly to other asymmetric balls in the Storm lineup, the Absolute behaves quite differently from "snow tires" like the Storm Gem or the Storm Proton Physix. It is considerably cleaner through the heads and reads the lane much later. Compared to the Storm Dark Code, the Absolute offers a bit more length and a sharper reaction off the dry boards on the backend. It operates in a similar gap as the Roto Grip Exotic Gem, but the R2S Deep cover makes it feel even more effortless getting through the heads. Against symmetric balls like the Storm Phaze V, the asymmetric core gives the Absolute more torque at the breakpoint and it stands up to the pocket more quickly, while keeping the clean length.
On the Lanes
The Storm Absolute is not a ball for extremely fresh, long oil where you need traction in the first few feet. Its moment comes when the transition sets in and the heads start losing oil. When strong solid balls begin to hook too early and burn up energy, the Absolute lets you move deep inside. It glides easily over the played-in heads and stores all of its energy for the backend. Thanks to the asymmetric core, it generates enough recovery to find the pocket even from steep angles and to maximize carry. It is the ideal choice for leagues and tournaments on medium oil once you have to open up the lane and need a ball that comes "around the corner".
