First Impressions
The Track Kinetic Cobalt brings the innovative HK22 technology (HyperKinetic22) into the legendary Kinetic series for the first time. Visually, the ball comes in a mix of cobalt and black, giving it a modern look. Inside works the proven asymmetric Shuttle core, known for its low RG (2.480 at 15 lbs) and a medium differential (0.040). This core is paired with the QR-7 hybrid coverstock on an HK22 base. Unlike many predecessors, which were often polished, the Cobalt comes out of the box with a 500/1500/4000 Siaair finish. This dull surface makes the ball build a bit more traction in the midlane despite its length, without sacrificing the backend reaction typical of the series.
Comparison
Bringing the **Track Kinetic Black Ice** in for comparison, the Cobalt reads the lane noticeably earlier. Where the Black Ice, with its polished pearl surface, often reacts only late and very sharply to friction, the Cobalt offers a rounder yet still dynamic motion thanks to the hybrid cover and the 4000 finish. It is less prone to over/under reactions than pure pearl balls. Compared to a **Storm Hy-Road**, which also counts as a benchmark, the Kinetic Cobalt shows a more defined motion at the breakpoint thanks to its asymmetric core and stands up toward the pocket more quickly, which can improve carry on less than perfect hits.
On the Lanes
This ball is an excellent choice for medium oil conditions and often serves as the first change-up when the big "tanks" (strong solid balls) lose energy too early. Thanks to the HK22 base it glides cleanly through the heads, but digs in enough in the midlane not to slide past the breakpoint. It works especially well during transition, when you have to move deeper on the lane and need a ball that stores enough energy to carry the corner pins even from steeper angles. It is versatile enough for league players on house patterns, but also gives tournament players the control they need on sport patterns.
