First Impressions
Released in June 2023, the Brunswick Infinity positions itself as a versatile performer in the mid to upper price range. Visually it shows up in a striking combination of dark blue, purple, and silver. Technically, Brunswick relies here on the newly developed Infinity Core, an asymmetric weight block. With a 2.521 RG, a 0.051 differential, and a moderate intermediate differential of 0.011 (at 15 lbs), this core offers an interesting mix: it has enough asymmetry to increase torque at the breakpoint, but the low intermediate value keeps it very controllable and not overly dominant. The core is wrapped in the Activator Plus 3.0 hybrid coverstock. This proven reactive chemistry ships out of the box with a dull 500/2000 Siaair Micro Pad finish, which gives the ball a visible texture and provides early stability.
Comparison
Within the Brunswick lineup, the Infinity fills the gap between the extremely strong high-performance balls and the symmetric benchmark balls. Compared to the Brunswick Mindset (a pure solid monster for heavy oil), the Infinity is considerably cleaner through the heads and stores more energy for the back part of the lane. It doesn't read the lane quite as early, but still offers more traction than a pure pearl ball like the Brunswick Melee Jab Carbon. Taking the Storm Phaze II as a common benchmark comparison, the Infinity shows a similarly early read in the midlane (thanks to the 2000 finish), but its asymmetric core gives it a more defined change of direction in the backend and it drives a bit harder through the pins when the entry angle is flat. It is less "round" than a Knock Out Bruiser, but delivers more punch.
On the Lanes
The Brunswick Infinity is an excellent benchmark ball for medium to heavy oil conditions. Thanks to the 2000 surface and the hybrid cover, it doesn't slide out on fresh oil and provides very reliable traction in the midlane. It works outstandingly well as the first ball out of the bag to test the lane characteristics. Its greatest strength is versatility: it smooths out the transition from oil to dry ("wet/dry") very effectively. When purely symmetric balls react too sluggishly at the breakpoint, the Infinity's slight asymmetry supplies the extra kick needed without becoming uncontrollable. It lets you play different angles as long as there is still some oil left in the heads. Should the lane get too dry, however, it will burn up energy too early.
