BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in the summer of 2023, the Hammer Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid marks a significant technological step forward in the legendary Widow series. Although dark colors are often associated with the line, this model officially arrived in a striking combination of red, black and blue (note: a special black/gold version is not listed in the regular line-up of this period; the standard model is the hybrid described here). Technically, the ball brings together two giants for the first time: the iconic Gas Mask core and the revolutionary HyperKinetic22 (HK22) base technology. With a 2.500 RG, a high 0.058 differential and a strong intermediate differential of 0.016 (at 15 lbs), the asymmetric core delivers the familiar massive flare potential. The HK22 - Aggression Hybrid coverstock, finished with 500/1000/1500 Siaair and Crown Factory Compound, provides clean projection through the heads while reacting extremely quickly to friction.
Comparison
Compared directly to the classic Hammer Black Widow 2.0 (Solid), which is known for its early, smooth arc, the 2.0 Hybrid goes considerably longer and offers a noticeably sharper move at the breakpoint. The HK22 cover lets the ball glide through the oil and then change direction almost explosively in the backend. Using the Hammer Black Widow Ghost Pearl as a reference, the 2.0 Hybrid offers a bit more security in the midlane thanks to the hybrid component and doesn't slide over oil spots as easily, while still keeping the backend snap courtesy of HK22. Against a competitor like the Storm Absolute (also asymmetric and polished), the Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid shows a heavier, rollier core motion from the Gas Mask core, which often carries better through the pins when the angle gets steep.
On the Lanes
This ball is an aggressive weapon for medium to heavy oil conditions on which length still has to be generated. It is predestined for players who like to open up the lane and play big angles. As soon as the lane goes into transition and pure solids burn up too early, the Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid is the perfect choice. The HK22 technology makes sure the ball doesn't "starve" even on wide lines out to the right (for right-handers), but comes back energetically. It does need a bit of oil in the front part of the lane (heads), since the strong core and the responsive cover could become too jumpy on completely dry lanes. If you throw the ball at lower speed, the core provides enough help to still make it look dynamic.
