First Impressions
The Storm Incite Up, released in August 2023 as an international edition, marks the next step in the technically fascinating Incite line. Visually, the ball comes in a distinctive combination of tangerine, cobalt, and black, rounded out by the signature Orange Creamsicle fragrance. Technically, Storm positions this ball as a bridge between symmetric and asymmetric designs. Inside works the Tensor™ core. This asymmetric block carries a 2.50 RG and a 0.053 differential at 15 lbs. What sets it apart is the low 0.013 intermediate differential (PSA). That mild asymmetry gives the ball the physical advantages of an asymmetric core — defined torque — while keeping the continuity and readability of a symmetric ball. The biggest technical upgrade over the original Incite (R4S Hybrid) is the ReX™ Pearl Reactive cover (Reactor Extreme). This coverstock technology, familiar from balls like the Dark Code or Virtual Energy Blackout, is a chemical hybridization of the proven R2S™ and the grabby NeX™ formula. The surface ships with a 1500-grit polished finish (Reacta Gloss), which points to a clean pass through the heads and an explosive reaction on the back end.
Comparison
Placing the Incite Up correctly requires a look at how the strong shell interacts with the controlled core. Compared to Storm's Dark Code, which uses the same ReX Pearl cover, the Incite Up behaves noticeably rounder. Where the RAD4 core in the Dark Code produces an extremely sharp direction change, the Tensor core in the Incite Up smooths that motion out. It offers similar length but avoids the occasionally hard-to-control overreaction at the breakpoint. Against the RST X-2 from Roto Grip, the Incite Up picks up friction slightly earlier in the midlane thanks to the chemical makeup of the ReX shell, yet stays gentler on the back end. In performance terms it sits above classic symmetric pearls like the Wolverine from 900 Global, but doesn't quite offer the total hook potential of a high-performance ball like Storm's Virtual Energy Blackout. Against the original Incite (hybrid), the "Up" version generates more length through the pearl additives and stores more energy for the pin area, which shows up as carry. Where the original Incite tended to roll out too early with heavy oil in the front, the Incite Up glides effortlessly across the heads. It fills the gap between strong shiny asymmetrics and controllable benchmark balls with real precision.
On the Lanes
The ideal scenario for the Storm Incite Up is medium to medium-heavy oil. Thanks to the ReX Pearl cover, the ball generates enough length to avoid grabbing too early even on broken-down heads. At the same time, the aggressive base chemistry keeps the ball from swimming in the oil and lets it build reliable traction as soon as it touches drier boards. For league play, the Incite Up works beautifully as a transition ball. When stronger solids such as a Phaze II or Gem start losing energy too early or stop hitting the pocket at the right angle, the Incite Up lets you open up your angles. You can stand deeper on the approach and send the ball further right (as a right-hander) toward the edge, knowing the moderate asymmetry will bring it back reliably without jumping unpredictably. If you're rev-dominant, you'll appreciate the control of the low intermediate differential, since the ball doesn't tend to tear off the moment it sees friction. If you have lower revs, you'll benefit from the energy stored in the pearl shell, which widens the entry angle into the pocket and should improve your pin carry. The Incite Up is therefore less a ball for completely fresh, heavy oil and more a weapon for the second and third games, when the lane picture gets more complex.
