First Impressions
The Track Paragon Weapon (released October 2023) is an exclusive addition to the successful Paragon line and, as an international "Overseas" model, is aimed at bowlers looking to fill a specific gap in their arsenal. Visually the ball shows up in an aggressive combination of black, red and white that signals its readiness for work right there on the shelf. Inside, the proven I-Core 3.0 (asymmetric) does the job, known for enormous revvability with a 2.486 RG and a 0.056 differential (at 15 lbs). The technical highlight, and the key distinction from the standard series, is the surface: Track uses the QR-12 Hybrid coverstock here. That blend is chemically more aggressive than the usual QR-11 material. The out-of-the-box finish (500, 1000, 1500 Siaair with Crown Factory Compound) makes sure the ball glides cleanly through the heads despite the strong cover.
Comparison
Compared directly to the regular Paragon Hybrid from Track (which uses the weaker QR-11 Hybrid coverstock), the Paragon Weapon should generate higher base traction in oil through the QR-12 material without sacrificing length. It therefore acts as an "upgrade" for situations in which the normal Hybrid reacts a bit too weakly to friction or slides too far. Against the Paragon Solid from Track, which is known for early roll, the Weapon offers considerably more energy storage for the backend. In terms of reaction it compares well with the Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid from Hammer, though the Paragon Weapon will tend to enter the roll phase somewhat earlier thanks to the I-Core 3.0. Compared to the Archetype from Track, the Weapon feels more controllable through the heads but delivers a similarly drastic change of direction at the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
The ideal range of use for the Paragon Weapon is medium to heavy oil conditions. Thanks to the compound polish the ball gets through the heads effortlessly, which makes it especially valuable once the heads have been played in a bit. As soon as it hits friction, the asymmetric core should unfold its full potential and generate a strong, defined hook into the pocket. It's an excellent choice for the transition, when pure solid balls start burning up energy too early but pearl balls still react too sensitively to oil lines ("over/under" reaction). If you like playing deeper angles and sending the ball well out over the boards ("open up the lane"), you'll appreciate the strong carry and the aggressive backend reaction.
