First Impressions
The Storm !Q Tour Teal expands the legendary !Q series with a long-awaited hybrid version that immediately catches the eye with its distinctive blue-green coloring. Technically, this ball is based on the proven combination that has defined this line for over a decade. At the center works the C³ Centripetal Control Core, a symmetrical core known for its extremely low differential (0.029 at 15 lbs) and a low RG (2.49 at 15 lbs). These core numbers already suggest a high degree of stability and controllability before the first shot. This core is wrapped in the R2S Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This is a chemical blend of the components used in the solid and pearl versions and is meant to close the gap between the aggressive traction of a solid and the length of a pearl. Out of the box, the ball comes with the Reacta Gloss finish, which gives it a noticeable shine and should help it get through the heads cleanly without losing energy too early. The signature scent Storm is known for is listed as "Pecan" on this model. The combination of the low-flaring core and the versatile hybrid cover points to a benchmark ball that is less about maximum coast-to-coast hook and more about predictability and a smooth motion off the backend.
Comparison
To properly place the performance of the Storm !Q Tour Teal, a look at its closest relatives is essential. Compared to the original Storm !Q Tour (solid), often considered the ultimate control ball, the Teal is noticeably cleaner through the heads. While the solid predecessor tends to read friction very early and create an extremely round motion, the Teal stores more energy for the backend thanks to the hybrid component and the Reacta Gloss finish. That should result in a slightly more defined entry angle into the pocket, without showing the uncontrollable jumpiness of some pure pearl balls. Against the Storm !Q Tour Ruby, which is the pure pearl version of the series, the Teal should read a bit earlier and act a touch rounder. It positions itself exactly in the middle: it offers more length than the solid, but more midlane traction than the Ruby. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the !Q Tour Teal is considerably weaker and more controllable. The Phaze II generates clearly more flare and more total hook. A fitting comparison outside the direct line would be the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid, though the !Q Tour Teal tends to roll up earlier and offer a heavier roll phase because of its stronger core design (lower RG). It is designed for situations in which stronger asymmetric balls like the Storm Absolute or the Roto Grip Attention Star react too violently to the transition.
On the Lanes
The ideal application for the Storm !Q Tour Teal is medium oil volume and especially lanes that have already gone through some transition. Because of the low differential, the ball creates little flare, which makes it an excellent choice when the lane gets spotty or the breakpoint becomes hard to control. It is built to smooth out nervous reactions at the end of the oil pattern. If you have a high rev rate, this ball could become an absolute favorite, since it lets you play more aggressively without the ball going through the nose uncontrollably. If your rev rate is lower, you'll appreciate the help from the low RG, which gets the ball into rotation early, but keep in mind that the polished surface can lead to skid phases when there is too much oil. Adjusting the surface with a 2000 or 3000 pad could help here to emphasize the hybrid characteristics more strongly. The ball is less suited to fresh, heavy oil patterns, since it lacks the traction needed to cut through the thick oil in the heads. Its strength lies in controlling friction: when stronger balls hook too early or lose too much energy before they reach the pins, the !Q Tour Teal should deliver exactly the right dose of length and backend motion to maximize carry and hit the pocket at the correct angle. It therefore works as an excellent "step-down" ball once your starting balls become too strong.
