BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm PhysiX SE is a special overseas release that stands out with a striking black and silver design. At the heart of this asymmetric bowling ball works the proven Atomic Core, which at 15 pounds carries a very low RG of 2.48 along with a high differential of 0.053 and an intermediate differential of 0.017. These core numbers should produce strong torque and early rotation on the lane. The coverstock is NRG Smooth Solid Reactive material, finished out of the box with a 3000-grit Abralon surface. This matte surface is designed to create consistent traction in oil and to smooth out aggressive reactions on dry boards. The combination of the very strong core and the reactive solid cover should give the ball a high degree of stability and predictability. Because of the dull cover, the ball begins its read early in the heads and builds up even energy to develop a controlled hook toward the pocket.
Comparison
In comparison, the Storm PhysiX SE shows clear differences from the original Storm PhysiX, which is equipped with a hybrid cover, thanks to its heavy solid cover. While the classic Storm PhysiX builds a bit more length through the heads and reacts more aggressively to friction on the backend, the Storm PhysiX SE is tuned to read the lane earlier and generate a smoother, more arcing motion. Bringing in the Storm Code X as another point of comparison, the Storm PhysiX SE is somewhat more continuous on the backend. The Storm Code X tends to make a more abrupt change of direction at a specific point, whereas the Storm PhysiX SE moves through the transition more smoothly thanks to its heavy cover. Compared to the Storm Sure Lock, which also has a very strong solid cover, the Storm PhysiX SE should react a bit rounder and less angular. That means it is less prone to overreacting when it hits early dry boards. This tuning should help the ball hold its energy more efficiently and allow consistent carry in the pocket instead of burning up its power too early in the rotation.
On the Lanes
In practice, the Storm PhysiX SE is designed primarily for medium to heavy oil patterns. Thanks to the rough surface and the strong core, this ball works excellently as a first choice on freshly oiled lanes, since it offers enough traction not to skid through the breakpoint uncontrolled. If you throw the ball fast or have a lower rev rate, you can benefit from the early roll phase and the strong hook potential to hit the pocket reliably. As the lane moves into transition over the course of the game and oil gets carried down the boards, the ball's calm roll should help avoid hard-to-predict reactions. For bowlers who play wide angles, the asymmetric design offers dependable control, since unexpected jumps on sudden contact with friction are minimized. Once the front part of the lane dries up too much, however, the ball could lose energy too early, which can quickly show up as noticeably weaker carry. In those situations, a timely switch to balls with a smoother cover is advisable. Overall, the Storm PhysiX SE offers very stable and confidence-inspiring ball motion for demanding conditions.
