BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Radical KATANA 幻月光, also known on the international market as the Gengetsuko, is an asymmetric high-performance bowling ball released in October 2021 primarily as an overseas model. Visually, the ball stands out with a dynamic color combination of black, red and silver. At the heart of this model sits the proven Radical Katana Asymmetric Core, structurally reinforced by the familiar DynamiCore technology. This technological combination should deliver improved hitting power and efficient energy transfer to the pins. The technical specifications clearly underline its high-performance claim. At 15 pounds, the core shows an RG of 2.50, which favors a moderate to late roll phase. The very high differential of 0.050 combined with a strong mass bias of 0.020 shows the pronounced asymmetry that allows for a massive expansion of track flare. The cover is the Forged-X Pearl Reactive surface. This particular surface comes finished out of the box with a 1000 grit polish. That smooth setup should let the ball glide extremely easily through the heads and create an almost explosive change of direction at the breakpoint.
Comparison Placed directly within an existing ball arsenal, the Radical KATANA 幻月光 shows an extremely specialized reaction profile. Using an established symmetrical solid ball such as the Storm Phaze II as a reference, the conceptual differences become very clear. The Storm Phaze II digs into the oil pattern very early thanks to its matte cover and creates a smooth, very continuous arc. The KATANA 幻月光 behaves in the exact opposite way. It ignores the front half of the lane almost completely and saves all of its rotational energy for the backend. As soon as the surface finds sufficient friction, an abrupt and enormously sharp hook follows. Compared with the original Radical Katana, the Forged-X Pearl cover of the 幻月光 often shows somewhat longer and cleaner skid as well as a more extreme entry angle into the pocket. It is explicitly designed to produce the strongest skid-snap effect in its series, though this always requires a clear oil-to-dry ratio across the boards.
On the Lanes The ideal scenarios for the Radical KATANA 幻月光 are medium to heavy oil conditions where the heads are still well lubricated but the backend offers clean, untouched friction. Especially in longer blocks, when the lane gradually moves into transition and the oil in the heads is slowly used up, this ball can fully show its true strengths. If you have a high rev rate and like to play deep angles from well inside, you'll find an enormously reliable tool here that generates exactly the hook needed to come back steeply into the pocket at the end of the pattern with maximum energy. The combination of asymmetric core and dynamic cover should deliver excellent carry. For classic strokers who traditionally play more parallel to the boards, however, the extremely angular reaction at the breakpoint could be too strong and hard to control. In those particular cases it can be very helpful to scuff the cover lightly with a pad to shorten the skid phase and start the roll phase earlier and more smoothly. On extremely flat sport patterns or very dry lanes, the ball should be viewed more as a specialty tool given its highly responsive character.
