First Impressions
The DV8 Trouble Maker Pearl makes a visually striking appearance in Black, Blue and Gold and marks an important addition to the Trouble Maker line for 2024. At the heart of this ball sits the patented Dualistic Core (RG 2.496, diff 0.045 at 15 lbs), the first core developed specifically for the needs of "no-thumb" bowlers (two-handed players), though it is fully usable for traditional players as well. This core is wrapped in the advanced HK22 - Inciter Xtreme Pearl coverstock. Out of the box the ball comes with a 500, 1000, 1500 Siaair finish followed by Factory Compound, which points to a clear direction right when you unbox it: length through the heads and a quick reaction on the backend. The combination of the smooth pearl surface and the dynamic core design should deliver clean motion through the heads without burning up energy too early.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original DV8 Trouble Maker (Hybrid), the pearl version is noticeably longer and more angular. While the original Trouble Maker works more as a benchmark ball with a rounder motion, the pearl version generates more skid in the front part of the lane thanks to the HK22 base and a more drastic change of direction at the breakpoint. It therefore slots logically below balls with solid covers such as the DV8 Trouble Maker Solid or high-performance pieces like DV8's Brutal Collision. Compared to other balls in the Brunswick family, such as the Cuda PowerCOR Pearl from Columbia 300, the Trouble Maker Pearl should offer somewhat more versatile adaptation to layouts thanks to the Dualistic core, especially for players without a thumb hole, since the core is designed to compensate for the absence of a balance hole.
On the Lanes
The ideal application range for the Trouble Maker Pearl is medium oil conditions, and especially the point where transition sets in and the lane starts to break down. When stronger balls begin to hook too early or lose energy, this ball provides the length needed to move further inside and still store enough energy for carry in the pocket. For two-handed players this ball is an indispensable tool, since the Dualistic core's dedicated drilling zones make it possible to control differential and ball reaction precisely — an advantage that used to be achievable only with balance holes. It shows its strengths when you want to use the friction further down the lane to increase the entry angle.
