BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid comes in a rich green tone that projects a calm, classic aesthetic on the lanes. At the center of this bowling ball works a symmetrical two-piece design conceived for an early and predictable roll phase. With a very low radius of gyration of 2.45 and a moderately high differential of 0.045, the core is built to get into rotation quickly and to establish extremely stable dynamics. The low RG helps the ball release its energy promptly, which is a decisive advantage on oilier conditions. This core is wrapped in a reactive solid coverstock whose surface comes out of the box with a matte 600 grit finish. This relatively coarse surface should ensure that the ball finds enough traction in the oil and does not slide too far through the heads before it begins its move toward the pocket. The combination of the strongly rolling core and the tacky cover gives the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid a very controllable character. As the ball passes through the front part of the lane, it starts reading the conditions early and prepares for a continuous arc. The coarse finish does take away some overall length, but in return it should provide a high degree of reliability through the middle boards, since sudden overreaction on unexpected contact with drier areas is minimized. The result is a predictable, even path down the lane that offers plenty of confidence in your line selection.
Comparison
In comparison, the behavior of the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid lines up very well with the Storm Phaze II from Storm. Both balls use a low RG core in combination with a strongly gripping solid coverstock to guarantee an early read of the lane conditions. However, while the Storm Phaze II often generates a bit more total motion and a slightly sharper angle to the pin deck thanks to its specific TX-16 cover, the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid distinguishes itself with an even rounder and smoother curve. Another fitting comparison ball is the Roto Grip Idol, which Roto Grip likewise designed as a benchmark for dependable reaction on medium to heavy oil. In a direct comparison with the Roto Grip Idol, the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid, with its heavily roughened factory 600 matte surface, often needs a little more oil volume so it doesn't lose all of its rotational energy too early. Once transition sets in on the lane and the oil is carried away, the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid tends to roll considerably earlier than the Roto Grip Idol. That can make a timely move further inside on the boards necessary. Overall, the hook of the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid is less about a massive change of direction in the back third of the lane; instead it impresses with steady traction. In contrast to high-gloss polished pearl balls like the Motiv Venom Shock Pearl from Motiv, which primarily rely on quick, sharp reactions off friction, the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid acts as a classic control ball that reaches the pocket by way of a steady and very smooth motion.
On the Lanes
The practical application of the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid focuses primarily on freshly oiled lanes as well as conditions with medium to high oil volume. Thanks to the heavily roughened surface and the early rolling core, this ball is an excellent choice as the first option out of the bag to get a clear picture of how the oil is currently distributed. If you throw the ball fast, you'll benefit enormously from the strong traction of the matte finish, since the ball has enough time to build traction and generate the necessary hook toward the pocket. If you have a very high rev rate, on the other hand, you could run into trouble on drier or already heavily played lanes, because the ball may move into its final roll phase too early and lose hitting power at the pins as a result. In such situations of advanced transition, when the heads get progressively drier and friction inevitably increases, it is often advisable to switch to a ball with a smoother surface in order to preserve energy. As long as there is enough oil present, though, the Dyno-Thane Rev X Solid should impress with excellent carry. The early and very continuous energy transfer into the pin deck should deliver a high percentage of strikes and noticeably reduce the number of annoying corner pins left standing. Even on more demanding patterns, where absolute control of the backend reaction is the deciding factor, this ball's predictable nature proves to be a big strategic advantage. It doesn't force you to play extreme angles out over the outside boards, but instead allows a more direct, calmer and safer line, which should noticeably increase your overall consistency over the course of a set.
