First Impressions
The Jet Bowling Turbulence is a high-performance asymmetrical bowling ball that catches the eye immediately with its striking Titanium and Deep Sky Blue Pearl color scheme. Technically, this ball is built around an asymmetrical core with a 2.554 RG, a 0.054 differential and a 0.016 intermediate differential. Objectively, these core numbers point to a dynamic yet very controllable ball motion. An RG value of 2.554 sits in the medium to slightly higher range. In physical terms, this means the core releases its rotational energy somewhat later, allowing the ball to get through the heads without giving up much energy to the lane early. At the same time, the high 0.054 differential produces strong track flare, so fresh surface keeps seeking contact with the lane on every revolution. This core is wrapped in the Lunix NF-40 Reactive Pearl cover. Out of the box, that surface comes with a 4000 grit polished finish. This combination of a high-quality pearl material and a high-gloss polish is designed specifically to minimize friction loss in the front third of the lane and allow clean skid through the applied oil. As a result, the ball stores its energy efficiently so it can be released abruptly at the breakpoint.
Comparison
To place the ball motion of the Jet Bowling Turbulence precisely, a direct comparison with established asymmetrical pearl balls makes sense, for example the Storm AstroPhysiX. Both balls fundamentally aim to combine maximum length down the lane with a strong, angular end motion. While the Storm AstroPhysiX has a lower RG of 2.48 and therefore gets its core into rotation somewhat earlier, the Jet Bowling Turbulence shows a noticeably longer skid phase thanks to its 2.554 RG. In practice, this means the Turbulence is less prone to reacting too early in the heads, even if the oil there has already been lightly worn away by heavy play. The intermediate differential of the Turbulence, at 0.016, is marginally higher than that of the Storm AstroPhysiX, which should favor a somewhat sharper change of direction toward the pocket once the ball exits the oil pattern. So if you find that balls like the Storm AstroPhysiX react to friction too early and lose noticeable energy at the end of the lane, the Jet Bowling Turbulence is an ideal alternative. It lets you move the breakpoint further downlane and keep the stored energy effectively available for the hit into the pins.
On the Lanes
On the lanes, the Jet Bowling Turbulence shows its true strengths on medium to slightly oily lane conditions and is an excellent choice as soon as transition sets in noticeably. When oil gets carried down into the back ends over the course of a tournament or a long league night and the heads start to dry up, you absolutely need a ball that doesn't lose energy too early. This is exactly where the technological interplay of the Lunix NF-40 Reactive Pearl cover and the 4000 grit polished finish comes in. The ball glides effortlessly through the worn front part of the lane, stores its rotational energy and unleashes a powerful hook in the backend. The asymmetrical core design helps keep the ball from overshooting the target uncontrollably despite that clean skid, instead making a reliably very strong and continuous move into the pocket. This should generate excellent carry, which optimizes your pinfall rate over the long run. If you like playing deep lines and crossing a lot of boards, you'll especially appreciate this model's angular stability, since the ball comes back dependably from steep angles. But if you have a somewhat lower ball speed, you'll benefit from the late reaction as well, because the ball doesn't threaten to roll out early or arrive dead in the pocket. On a fresh oil pattern with very high volume, however, the polished surface may offer too little traction. In such cases it's advisable to lightly scuff the surface with an abrasive pad to increase traction without completely eliminating the asymmetrical kick in the backend. All in all, this ball presents itself as an extremely versatile and precise tool for the later games of a series, when the lane conditions get more demanding.
