First Impressions
The Jet Bowling Burner comes in a highly eye-catching color combination of Vivid Yellow and Intense Orange that stands out immediately on the lane. The technical foundation of this model is a symmetrical core whose specifications dictate a ball motion strongly focused on length. With a very high radius of gyration of 2.600, this ball falls into the category of models that delay the transition into the roll phase extremely far down the lane. This high number is paired with a remarkably strong differential of 0.054, which promises immense flare potential across the boards. The outer shell is the SRT-6 Reactive Solid cover. Contrary to the typical expectation of a solid surface, the ball ships from the factory with a 1500 polished finish. This unusual combination of an extremely late core, a solid formulation and a high-gloss polished surface should let the ball glide through the heads completely effortlessly. Instead of burning energy early, the construction stores a maximum amount of power for the back part of the lane. The synergy of the components results in typical skid-flip behavior, in which the long skid phase is followed by a sudden, strong change of direction at the breakpoint, which makes the ball especially interesting if you are looking for maximum length without giving up dynamic backend reaction.
Comparison
Setting the Jet Bowling Burner side by side with well-known reference models illustrates its specific area of use very precisely. Compared to a traditional benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, the extreme differences in the basic design concept become apparent immediately. While the Storm Phaze II builds traction extremely early thanks to its low center of gravity and unpolished solid cover, generating a continuous, rather arcing midlane reaction, the Jet Bowling Burner avoids any early read completely and skids much farther through the oil that is on the lane. Bringing in a modern ball with a similar orientation, such as the Motiv Supra Enzo, clear parallels appear in the intended length. Even so, in contrast to pure pearl shells, the Burner's solid cover makes contact with the lane marginally more predictable once the oil pattern ends and friction takes over. Asymmetrical models with smooth surfaces, for example a Hammer Black Widow 3.0 Pearl, generate an even more extreme and often harder-to-control angle at the breakpoint through their strongly asymmetrical engine. The Burner's symmetrical build tames the aggressiveness at the breakpoint somewhat, but its enormous differential still produces considerably more flare and therefore a more massive motion at the end of the lane than classic entry-level balls with comparable numbers.
On the Lanes
The ideal scenarios for the Jet Bowling Burner are found primarily on medium oil patterns, particularly once transition sets in over the course of a tournament or a long league night and the front part of the lane dries up more and more. As soon as balls with duller surfaces start to release their energy too early in the broken-down oil and consequently hit flat into the pins, the Burner's polished construction is an extremely logical and effective solution. The finished solid cover and the late core allow the ball to cross even heavily played areas in the heads with no loss of energy at all. Once the ball finally reaches the dry backend and finds the necessary friction there, the extremely high differential should be activated and deliver a very sharp, powerful hook toward the pocket. This strongly angular motion optimizes the entry angle into the pins and should keep carry high even when straighter lines are no longer promising given the lane conditions. If you have lower ball speed or a lower rev rate, you'll benefit enormously from the automatic length this layout generates from the ground up. For very oily or long patterns, on the other hand, the model is not designed, since the ball could miss the necessary friction here and ignore the breakpoint window entirely. Under the right conditions, however, the model delivers a reliable maximum of length paired with a very dynamic and powerful reaction at the end of the lane.
