First Impressions
The Seismic Plastic Bowling Ball is designed as a classic spare ball and offers exactly the straight-line characteristics this segment calls for. Inside this bowling ball sits a traditional 3-piece pancake core, a construction that has proven itself for this type of ball over decades. With such a simple core construction, dynamic values like radius of gyration (RG) and differential hardly play any significant role, since the flare potential on the lane is practically zero. The core primarily serves to establish the ball's specified weight and keep it in balance, without imposing any roll characteristic of its own. The pancake core is surrounded by a very hard, resilient and durable polyester cover, often referred to simply as plastic in the trade. This surface was polished to an extreme high gloss at the factory. The combination of a completely inactive core and an extremely low-friction surface should ensure that the ball reacts virtually not at all to the prevailing oil pattern on its way down the lane. The Seismic Plastic Bowling Ball is therefore designed exclusively to generate maximum length and to glide extremely cleanly through the heads, without shedding kinetic energy early or initiating an unwanted change of direction toward the pins.
Comparison Drawing a direct comparison to another classic spare ball such as the Storm Ice Storm, the Seismic Plastic Bowling Ball shows a nearly identical, completely straight and controllable ball motion. Both models rely on the proven combination of a pancake core and a high-gloss polished polyester cover to reduce any physical reaction to the lane topography to an absolute minimum. The actual contrast in ball motion becomes extremely clear, however, when this model is compared to a modern, reactive benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II. While the Storm Phaze II, with its massive, strong symmetrical core and extremely tacky solid surface, is designed specifically to respond to friction very early in the midlane and produce a strong, arcing hook toward the pins, the Seismic Plastic Bowling Ball ignores these outside influences almost completely. It cuts through the oil and resists any transition on the lane. Even when the lanes dry up substantially over the course of a tournament, the polyester ball maintains its completely straight path from release to pin deck absolutely without compromise, which clearly sets it apart in function from every reactive ball on the market.
On the Lanes The ideal and primary use for the Seismic Plastic Bowling Ball is without question the targeted clearing of pins left standing after the first shot. For nearly every type of player, from the ambitious beginner to the outright professional, a reliable spare ball is an indispensable tool in the bag, because it takes the complex variables and imponderables of the given lane conditions completely out of play. No matter how much the lane has already been broken down by previous shots or how far the transition has progressed over the course of a long league night, this ball can be played precisely and accurately over the intended boards. It slides effortlessly and without loss of speed through the heavily oiled heads and also glides across the considerably drier outside portions without showing any reaction. This property is especially decisive on difficult, isolated corner pins on the right or left side, where an uncontrollable or unintended hook would inevitably result in a missed shot into the gutter. On a direct shot at a full pin deck, however, the polyester cover offers considerably less carry than a reactive ball due to the complete lack of entry angle into the pocket. The pin deck is hit very flat and without the necessary rotation, which almost always leaves pins standing. Its absolute strength therefore lies purely in uncompromising precision, high forgiveness on dry conditions and absolute predictability, which makes it an essential aid for consistent and dependable spare shooting on any conceivable house and sport pattern.
