BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Seismic Aftermath Pearl, which hit the market in November 2010, stands out visually with a striking color combination of royal blue and copper red. At the heart of this model sits the modified Insignia core, a strong asymmetric drive system. With a low RG of 2.48, a high differential of 0.054 and an intermediate differential of 0.016, this engine is built for early roll and enormous flare potential. The outer layer is the AVC-ET Pearl cover. This surface gets a 4000-grit sanding at the factory and is then polished to a high shine. This combination of components should let the ball glide through the heads while conserving energy. Despite the polished pearl shell, the chemical makeup of the cover is designed to produce surprisingly controlled traction in the midlane. That keeps the ball from sliding too much on the oil and creates an extremely predictable foundation for the hook at the end of the oil pattern. The hard specs point to a high-performance ball that combines versatility with consistent energy transfer.
Comparison Compared directly to the original Seismic Aftermath, which uses a matte coverstock for extremely early traction, the pearl version generates noticeably more length. Where the classic Aftermath grabs hard and arcs in the front part of the lane, the Aftermath Pearl passes through those zones with ease and saves its energy for the backend. Set against an asymmetric pearl heavyweight from another manufacturer, such as the Storm Virtual Energy, the Aftermath Pearl shows a markedly smoother and rounder ball motion. Instead of reacting aggressively and angularly to friction it encounters, the Seismic model makes an even, very controlled move toward the pocket. Against typical entry-level or dry-lane balls with a pearl shell, like the Brunswick Slingshot, the Aftermath Pearl shows significantly more dynamics and considerably more overall traction thanks to its asymmetric core. It thus bridges the gap between balls that are too strong and burn up early and balls that are too weak to build enough hook, and it delivers a very reliable reaction.
On the Lanes The ideal use cases for the Seismic Aftermath Pearl are moderate to heavy lane conditions. When the first transition arrives during a tournament and the oil in the front part of the lane gets carried away, this model proves extremely valuable. The polished cover slides effortlessly over the worn boards in the heads, while the dynamic core releases the stored energy at the breakpoint to deliver excellent carry. If you have to move deep inside as the lanes change and play steeper angles, you'll benefit from the high predictability. Because the ball doesn't react erratically, it is easy to control and forgives small release errors better than highly aggressive pearl balls. On extremely dried-up conditions, however, it's best avoided. When friction gets too high, even this asymmetric ball loses its energy too early and then enters the pin deck very flat. Rev-dominant bowlers will appreciate the calmed-down backend reaction for attacking the pocket safely, while classic strokers benefit from the enormous asymmetric core power in generating the hook they need. All in all, the ball is a highly dependable tool for situations that call for length paired with a strong but never uncontrollable finishing move.
