First Impressions
The Ebonite The One Miracle was released in May 2018 as an exclusive international release and stands out visually with a striking color combination of black, purple and blue. Inside this bowling ball works the legendary Centrex Mass Bias core. Although the original naming often describes it as a symmetrical core, the weight blocks used make it a clearly asymmetrical design. The technical specifications back this up with a low RG of 2.46, a very high differential of 0.056 and a pronounced intermediate differential of 0.027. These numbers point to enormous rotational potential and an extremely fast rev-up. This engine is wrapped in the GSV-1 Hybrid Reactive coverstock, a versatile shell that combines the properties of solid and pearl materials. Out of the box the surface is scuffed with a 2000 Abralon pad and then polished to a high gloss with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish. This smooth preparation should let the ball glide effortlessly through the heads despite its extremely strong core. As soon as the ball leaves the oiled boards, the asymmetrical core releases its stored energy abruptly, which sets up an aggressive and clearly defined path to the pocket. The construction aims at the best possible compromise between clean length and an explosive reaction at the breakpoint.
Comparison Compared directly with the classic Ebonite The One Original, the Miracle shows a noticeably modified ball motion. While the Original delivered a very steady, arcing reaction thanks to its matte finish, the polish on the Miracle provides noticeably more length and a considerably sharper end reaction. Taking the Storm Phaze II as a cross-brand reference, the contrast between a strong symmetrical solid and an asymmetrical hybrid cover becomes especially clear. The Storm Phaze II delivers extremely even, predictable traction in oil, so it revs up early and steadily. The Ebonite The One Miracle, on the other hand, runs much cleaner through the first two thirds of the lane and then reacts considerably more aggressively to the first friction it encounters. Compared with a typical symmetrical pearl ball such as the Brunswick Melee Jab, however, The One Miracle proves noticeably more dominant. While pure pearl balls with symmetrical cores often start to slide on heavier oil and can miss the breakpoint, the strong Centrex core in the Miracle keeps the mechanical rotation going at all times and forces the ball to make its hook. Its strength clearly lies in being able to play deep angles without the carry at the pin deck suffering.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Ebonite The One Miracle is on lanes with medium to high oil volume, especially once the front part of the lane has already broken down slightly. Thanks to the smooth hybrid cover the ball glides through the heads without resistance, while the extremely strong core builds up enough power to cover long distances across the boards without trouble. If you have a lower rev rate or lower ball speed, you'll benefit greatly from the asymmetrical dynamics, since the core compensates for the weaker release and artificially strengthens the reaction. For high rev players the ball is an excellent option for playing deep from the middle late in a tournament block. If the transition progresses to an extreme degree, however, and the back end of the lane becomes erratic or spotty, the ball could react too strongly and too angularly, which makes control harder. In that case a switch to weaker, symmetrical equipment is advisable. As long as there is enough oil up front, though, this ball delivers reliable performance. The combination of polished finish and high-end core makes it an outstanding tool for anyone looking for a late but extremely powerful change of direction into the pocket to ensure optimal carry.
