The Storm Norm Duke Clear, released as a limited special edition in April 2026, presents itself as a specialized polyester ball designed as a tribute to Norm Duke's legendary career. At the center of this model works the symmetric Hex Core, engineered specifically to create extremely low dynamics. At a standard weight of 15 pounds, this weight block carries an exceptionally high RG of 2.660 and a very low differential of 0.018. These specific core numbers point to minimal flare potential and an extremely straight roll. The core is wrapped in a high-quality, see-through Clear Polyester coverstock. The surface comes polished to a high gloss with a 3500-grit finish out of the box. This deliberate combination of a passive, symmetric core and an extremely smooth, low-friction surface should deliver maximum length and a nearly reaction-free motion through the oiled heads as well as the dry backend of the lane. Visually, the ball stands out with its clear, transparent design, which makes the inner core and the special graphic elements visible and clearly shows the forward rotation.
Comparison Compared to reactive balls on the market, the Storm Norm Duke Clear serves a completely different, highly specialized purpose. While a classic benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II is built to generate a strong hook when it contacts friction, the Norm Duke Clear was constructed for exactly the opposite: avoiding any reaction at all. Taking other polyester balls as a direct reference, such as the Brunswick Crown Jewel or the regular Storm Ice, the Norm Duke Clear shows very similar basic behavior, since with these balls it is primarily the cover material that dictates the motion. The integrated Hex Core should, however, provide an even more even forward rotation than conventional entry-level balls, which often have no core at all or a simple pancake core. Against urethane balls like the Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane, which are also used for control and reduced backend motion, the Norm Duke Clear offers absolutely no traction in the oil and no intentional arc into the pocket. If you're looking for a ball that takes the oil pattern completely out of play and stubbornly holds its line, the clear polyester cover of this model is the most reliable solution.
On the Lanes The ideal environment for the Storm Norm Duke Clear is not a specific oil condition, but rather the targeted conversion of leftover pins, which is why it is used primarily as a classic spare ball. Thanks to the hard, polished cover, the ball slides across the boards completely unfazed by oil or dry spots and keeps its initial path all the way to the pin deck. As soon as it reaches the end of the oil pattern and thus hits friction, the polyester material prevents the ball from developing any unwanted hook. That makes it the perfect tool for picking off corner pins, where a dead-straight line across the lane is required. Bowlers of every skill level, from beginner to touring pro, can use this model effectively to maximize their spare percentage. Even during phases of extreme transition, when the lanes are broken down so badly that even the weakest reactive balls jump too early, the Norm Duke Clear can theoretically serve as a last-resort option if you have a very high rev rate, allowing you to get through the heads — though carry into the pocket will be noticeably reduced due to the lack of entry energy. The surface needs almost no maintenance, but if it picks up light scratches or dulls slightly, it can be brought back to its original shine with conventional polishes to keep the low-friction characteristics intact over the long haul.
