First Impressions
The Aloha Zero is a classic polyester ball that hit the market in October 2013 and has since been a staple in the beginner and spare ball segment. The design features a smooth, high-gloss polished surface finished with 4000 grit Abralon. Inside the ball works a traditional pancake core, engineered for an extremely stable and predictable path. The specs on a 15 pound ball come in at a 2.690 RG and a 0.020 differential. This combination of a hard polyester shell and a weak core means the ball develops almost no motion of its own and consistently minimizes friction on the lane surface.
Comparison Compared directly to other well-known spare balls such as the Brunswick Tzone or the Columbia 300 White Dot, the Aloha Zero shows a nearly identical ball motion defined by maximum directional stability. While a modern reactive ball like the Storm Phaze II is built to react massively in the backend and seek friction, the Aloha Zero glides over the oil and the dry parts of the lane with no appreciable hook. Even next to entry-level balls with a bit of core potential, this ball stays much calmer in its line. It falls into the category of pure plastic balls, where the nature of the cover shuts down any transition in order to keep the focus on a straight ball path.
On the Lanes The primary job of the Aloha Zero is precise spare shooting, especially when single pins are left on the left or right side. For advanced players and pros it serves as an indispensable tool to completely neutralize the influence of the lane oil and to guarantee a consistent line to the pocket or to the corner pins. Beginners get an affordable first ball in this model, one that lets them learn the fundamentals of the swing and the release without being distracted by unpredictable hook motion. Thanks to the low friction, the ball should offer excellent straight-line travel even on difficult or heavily played patterns. In situations with extremely little oil in the heads it can also be used if you have a very high rev rate, to control carry and avoid the overreaction of reactive materials.
