First Impressions
Released in February 2022, the ProBowl Forta marks an interesting return to classic materials in the bowling industry, though it positions itself in a modern context. Visually, the ball comes in several eye-catching color combinations, including "Gold/Orange/Black" and "White/Purple/Orange," which give it a dynamic presence on the ball rack. Technically, the Forta is not a reactive high-performance ball but a specialized urethane-based solution. The core of the Forta is a classic symmetrical pancake core. This construction results in specific numbers: a very high RG of over 2.68 (at 15 lbs) and an extremely low differential of roughly 0.010 to 0.020. On paper, these figures already point to an exceptionally stable, straight ball path. The decisive feature, however, is the coverstock. Instead of relying on brittle polyester, ProBowl uses a polished polyurethane here. The factory surface ships with a 4000-grit polish. This choice of material is meant to close the gap between pure plastic balls and modern entry-level reactive balls. Where polyester often feels "dead" on the lane, the Forta's urethane offers minimal but noticeable friction without generating the aggressive hook motion of modern performance balls. The feel of the surface comes across as high quality and promises greater durability than conventional polyester models, which are more prone to cracking around the finger holes.
Comparison
Compared directly with other balls on the market, the ProBowl Forta occupies a niche position most closely comparable to the Storm Mix. Both balls use a urethane cover over a simple core to combine durability with a straight roll. Compared to a standard polyester ball such as the Brunswick T-Zone or the Columbia 300 White Dot, the Forta should show superior durability. Urethane is chemically more resistant to mechanical impact from the pins or the ball return. In terms of ball reaction, the Forta behaves about as neutral as those plastic balls, but it often develops a bit more "drive" over the very last few feet into the pocket. That is because urethane often transfers energy on impact more efficiently than harder plastic, which could have a positive effect on carry (the pins falling). Drawing the comparison to "true" performance urethane balls like the Storm Pitch Black or the Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane, clear differences emerge. Those high-performance balls have dynamic cores and more aggressive cover formulations designed to read early and produce a distinct curve. The ProBowl Forta, by contrast, has almost no flare potential because of its pancake core. It will not try to grab early in the heads (the first few feet of the lane) the way a Pitch Black would. Anyone expecting the motion of a Purple Hammer would be disappointed here; the Forta is designed to stay straight, not to cross boards.
On the Lanes
The ideal use case for the ProBowl Forta is twofold, appealing to beginners and ambitious sport bowlers alike. For the tournament player, the Forta serves primarily as a first-rate spare ball. On difficult sport patterns where the lanes are extremely dry or "burned," even a polyester ball can sometimes run unsettled when it meets friction. The Forta's urethane surface offers a consistent blend here: it almost completely ignores the oil in the front part of the lane, but allows a minimal amount of control at the backend without jumping unpredictably. That makes it ideal for precise shots at single pins, especially the 10 pin (for right-handers) or the 7 pin (for left-handers), where a straight path across many boards is absolutely essential. For beginners and recreational bowlers, the Forta represents an excellent investment as a first ball of their own. Since beginners often don't yet have the technique to put much rotation on the ball, a ball that runs straight in a controlled manner is an advantage while learning the fundamentals. The decisive edge over a cheap plastic ball here is longevity. If you later make progress and start generating rotation, the Forta doesn't become useless — it simply moves into the spare ball role in your arsenal. On top of that, the Forta could see use on extremely dry lanes when even weak reactive balls react too early. In situations where the transition has progressed so far that no other ball holds the pocket anymore, the Forta could make it possible to play straight up the boards and still retain enough energy for a strike. It is the tool for conditions where control matters more than maximum hook power.
