BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Hammer Black Widow Black Pearl Urethane arrives in July 2024 as an international overseas release and combines two central elements of the Hammer philosophy: the legendary Black Widow series with the iconic Gas Mask asymmetric core and proven thick-shell urethane technology in a pearl execution. With a 2.500 RG (15 lbs), a 0.058 differential and a 0.016 intermediate differential, the ball positions itself as asymmetric urethane equipment with substantial flare potential. The Urethane Pearl surface comes out of the box with a 500/1000/2000 Siaair Micro Pad finish and represents Hammer's approach of combining classic urethane technology with modern hitting power. The thick-shell pearl coverstock construction is meant to build on the success of the Black Widow Urethane Solid and function as a complementary pearl variant. Unlike modern reactive covers designed for explosive breakpoint reactions, this ball focuses on comprehensive control over the entire length of the lane, tying old-school technology to contemporary pin action.
Comparison Compared to the Black Widow Urethane Solid with its 360/500/500 Abralon finish, the Black Pearl Urethane version with its pearl formulation and finer 500/1000/2000 Siaair finish typically offers more length through the heads. While the solid reacts earlier and shows a stronger midlane reaction, the pearl version should run about three feet longer before it starts its change of direction. In the context of Hammer's Pink Pearl Urethane version, which uses the same Purple Pearl Urethane cover formulation and ships with a 360/800 Siaair finish, the Black Pearl differs primarily in the smoother finish and possibly in the specific cover composition of the thick-shell Black series. Compared to symmetrical urethane options such as Hammer's Purple Pearl Urethane, the asymmetric Gas Mask core gives the ball more flare potential and a quicker hook zone, which can be especially helpful when cutting through carrydown. Against Hammer's Black Pearl Urethane with its symmetrical LED core and 78D hardness for PBA conformity, the Black Widow Black Pearl Urethane offers noticeably more backend bite and more dynamic ball motion thanks to its asymmetric core.
On the Lanes The Black Widow Black Pearl Urethane suits players who value the predictability and control of urethane equipment but need more hook potential than symmetrical urethane options can provide. The large flare potential of the Gas Mask core makes the ball a suitable choice if Hammer's Purple Pearl Urethane doesn't give you enough overall hook. The pearl surface in combination with the multi-stage Siaair finish should allow a clean pass through the heads, while the asymmetric core delivers characteristic backend bite. Designed for medium oil conditions, the ball offers the typical urethane characteristic of a strong, arcing motion without the abrupt reactions of modern reactive covers. The versatility of the Gas Mask core across different throwing styles makes it interesting for strokers as well as rev-dominant players, with surface adjustment playing an important role in optimal performance. If needed, you can refine or scuff the surface further to match the reaction to specific lane conditions, though urethane balls should ideally be used close to their intended surface. As an overseas release, the ball is aimed primarily at the international market and at tournament players looking for an asymmetric urethane option in their arsenal that offers more authority than traditional symmetrical urethane formulations while preserving the prized control and predictability of urethane technology.
