First Impressions
The Roto Grip Attention Line, introduced in August 2024 as an international release, expands the successful Attention series with a powerful hybrid option for more demanding oil conditions. Inside the ball sits the proven Momentous Core. This asymmetric core is known for its fast-revving characteristics and, at 15 pounds, delivers a low RG of 2.48 along with a high differential of 0.053 and an intermediate differential of 0.011. These numbers suggest early rotation and a strong tendency to change direction once the core takes hold. The defining feature of the Attention Line, however, is the pairing of this core with the MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This cover is chemically more aggressive than the eTrax formulations and provides noticeably more traction in oil. The surface comes with a 2000-grit Abralon finish out of the box, which gives the ball a matte appearance and helps it "claw" into the lane early. The high-contrast color scheme isn't just cosmetic — it helps you clearly distinguish the first and second phases of ball motion (skid and hook).
Comparison
Comparing the Attention Line with the extremely popular Roto Grip Attention Star reveals significant differences in reaction characteristics. Where the Attention Star, with its polished eTrax Pearl cover, is designed for length and a very angular move at the breakpoint, the Attention Line works considerably earlier and rounder. It reads the midlane much more strongly and offers a more controlled, arcing motion. You could view it as the "bigger brother" that gets used before the lane is ready for the Attention Star. Compared to a "tank" like the Roto Grip Gem (MicroTrax Solid), the Attention Line offers a bit more length and a quicker response to friction thanks to its hybrid content and the somewhat more dynamic Momentous core (versus the Gem's Defiant LRG core), without burning up quite as early. Against competing products it positions itself much like a Storm Absolute Power, but its asymmetric weight distribution provides more torque entering the pocket. It closes the gap between the strongest solids for flooded conditions and the shiny pearls for open lanes.
On the Lanes
The preferred application for the Roto Grip Attention Line is fresh, medium to heavy oil patterns. Thanks to the 2000-grit surface and the MicroTrax hybrid cover, the ball needs no help creating friction in oil. It's ideal for the start of a block or tournament, when the heads still hold plenty of oil and you need a ball that doesn't ignore the boards in the front part of the lane but instead runs through them stably. The ball should deliver a smooth connection between midlane and backend, which makes it an excellent choice for "benchmark" situations. You can use it to read the lane, since it minimizes over/under reactions: it doesn't skid too far in the oil and doesn't jump too hard off the dry. If you throw the ball fast, this is a reliable tool for making sure the ball gets into a roll in time. Rev-dominant players will appreciate the control, because the ball doesn't shoot uncontrollably across the lane but releases its energy continuously toward the pocket to maximize carry through the pins. Once the front of the lane dries up (transition), however, it's time to switch to a cleaner ball like the Attention Star.
